While this is largely true, its so dumb not too. Yes I have the biggest bias in the world here, but it's like not brushing your teeth twice a day. Sure you can get away with it until you don't.

You know you really don't have to change your oil every 3000 miles right? That that is just a marketing ploy to get you to change your oil more often than needed. While it might have been true decades ago, it is no longer true for most newer models. If you look in most manuals many car makers today rec 5,000 miles to 10,000 or longer due to synthetic oil and modern engines. Not sure when to change your oil? check out your manufacturer recommendations. With the current shortage of some oil blends its important to know you can probably wait to change your oil until the supply lines are back to normal. Stop panicking.

@r_todler @CostaKapo The reason you see really long intervals in owners manuals these days is mostly due to the EPA, the idea that you can save money with a newer car that requires “less maintenance”, and the fact that manufacturers don’t want cars to last 500k+ miles. They think 150k is good enough.

@r_todler @CostaKapo 3-5k is the best if you ever sit and idle the engine or sit in traffic, or take a short trip, or drive fast when the engine is cold. Especially on a hybrid because of water & fuel dilution. Otherwise 5k is fine for most engines with synthetic oil. You might get away with 6-7k.

@CostaKapo Why not brush five times per day? Same issue. You don’t know and can’t know what the best interval is. 3000 is probably best for the oil change places.

If you don’t like time changes, then what you want is Permanent Standard Time, *not* Permanent DST.
