The Inspiring Success Story of Billionaire Dr. Dan Twebaze Dr. Dan Twebaze began his career far from the commercial real estate industry. Trained as a medical doctor at Makerere University, he understood the challenges of a recovering economy and the pressing need for better urban living conditions. Dr. Twebaze used his analytical background in medicine to build a highly successful real estate enterprise. He evolved his early operations into TWED (Twebaze Real Estate Development) to meet the increasing demand for quality office space in Kampala's Central Business District. His medical training, paired with an MBA and urban management qualifications, gave him the technical and managerial skills needed for large urban projects. He also expanded his business network and enterprise management experience by holding a 15 percent stake in the telecom company sim4U in 2002. By restructuring TWED's governance and establishing a professional board of directors, he positioned the company as a reliable partner for major corporations and international agencies. Today, Dr. Twebaze shapes Uganda's urban landscape and holds an estimated net worth of $120 million. The TWED portfolio includes major commercial developments like TWED Plaza, TWED Towers, a Warehouse and Logistics Centre, and the TWED Heights and Hilton Hotel project. His path to massive success has included significant challenges, such as a recent, bruising court battle over the Hilton project that temporarily halted construction. He successfully overcame this legal hurdle, demonstrating his resilience and commitment to his long-term goals. TWED continues to provide customized real estate solutions to national corporations, NGOs, and public institutions. Local leaders in Amudat and Kween districts, with support from IOM Uganda, convened a community dialogue in Lokales Sub-county, bringing together Pokot and Sabiny communities to strengthen peaceful coexistence along transhumance routes. @DanishMFA funded the initiative.

As part of the project, an energy centre was launched in Nakivale Refugee Settlement, building on earlier efforts to expand access to efficient energy for households and host communities. It will also provide hands-on training in the creation of clean energy products.

@RGabdho has formally handed over the @EUinUG funded Flexible Mechanism project to IOM. With implementation complete, ownership will transition to @OPMUganda, ensuring sustained progress through continued partner coordination.

From 28–30 April 2026,IOM in coordination with the National Coordination Mechanism on Migration (NCM)-with support from @IOMDevFund, convened stakeholders to harmonize migration data, review national progress on GCM through quarterly meeting, and prepare for #IMRF2026.

Access to safe and efficient energy remains a major challenge for refugee and host communities in 🇺🇬. Through the @EUinUganda‑funded Flexible Mechanism project, IOM and @RGabdho have supported 140 households in Nakivale with energy kits, including cookstoves & solar lighting.

In Nakivale Refugee Settlement, cooking is central to daily life, but for many households it comes at a high cost to health and the environment. IOM 🇺🇬, together with @RGabdho and funded by @EUinUG, helped deliver Save80 energy‑efficient cookstoves that cut firewood use by 80%.

Deep within the emerald canopy of @kibaleforest the delegation tracked wild chimpanzees an encounter that places Uganda at the forefront of experiential tourism.
