What a great way to end our Sports and Well-being week in Year 5 - we enjoyed some archery and a good game of quidditch! Thank you Miss George 👏👍🏹

We continued our work on overlapping and overlaying this afternoon. We had a go at creating some landscape collages using our learning about Roy Litchenstein.

Continuing with our sewing skills this afternoon as our pencil cases began to come together. Are they fit for purpose is the question that we are now thinking about?

We looked at computer databases and considered how they differed to paper databases. We looked at records and fields and used both a form view and table view to gather and sort data, explaining which we found more efficient.

This morning we continued to draft our persuasive speeches in character, explaining why slavery should be abolished. Lots of emotive language, rhetorical questions and use of the power of three as persuasive techniques.

Today we started putting our sewing skills to use, as we began to sew the different elements of our pencil cases together…

Using Scratch, and the skills we have developed over the course of the unit, we designed and made our own games with some expert help along the way. We thoroughly enjoyed sharing them and having a go playing some!

Busy completing the Golden Writing of our informal letter in role as John, writing to his beloved sister Millicent. Lots of emotion, colloquial language, abbreviations and a chatty tone.

Following on from practising the different stitches, as well as looking at our stitch for this year - the back stitch, we then created our seam allowances and button holes in preparation for making our pencil cases.

Exploring and identifying figurative language in our new text ~ Freedom Bird.

After evaluating different pencil case designs, we conducted some market research to find out preferences, just as product designers would. We will then begin to design our own, thinking about purpose and functionality as well as using our findings to influence design decisions.

We began programming this afternoon, using Scratch to create loops in our codes. We created different shapes using the repeat code block to help us.

Looking at angles this morning in Year 5. We recapped what they are and some of the different names before having a go at estimating and accurately measuring them, using a protractor. Accuracy was key!

What a fascinating morning spent walking around Bowdon with our tour guide extraordinaire, Mr Hampton, looking for evidence of how our locality changed as a result of the Cotton Industry.

What features of a letter do we need to think of as we prepare to respond to the King. What style and tone are we trying to create? Some of the questions we began to think about in English today. We thought we needed to be confident, knowledgeable, empathetic and respectful.

Discovering whether dissolving and mixing processes can be reversed through filtering, sieving and evaporating 🧐

Putting our computer skills to the test as we used Google slides to create a composite Lowry inspired digital painting. We used our knowledge of perspective as well as tint, tone and shade to help us create these.

Doughnut Percents 🍩 It is a doughnut that you can’t eat, but it’s still good fun! We practised our understanding of equivalences between FDP.
