@greenytrades Some of these replies are concerning. Got to remember an event doesn't equal tax payment I.e. you sell your NFT (pay tax on gains) immediately convert your btc/eth/sol to AUD you only really pay tax on the NFT sale not the conversion as everything is done at the same rate

Just to clarify with everyone. Every on chain transaction is a taxable event in Australia. Swaps, selling, buying, sending wallet to wallet, staking, defi, futures, memes, NFTs, ordinals, runes etc. The amount of commenters that said you can avoid it is disturbing. Make sure you always take profit to cover tax. Paying tax is superior to going to jail for tax evasion. A limitation for me is I can only sell my current assets back into AUD not USD. Yes I will be changing exchanges after this cycle. Crypto Tax Made Easy had a great point that in the short term AUD likely could outperform USD. I also want to consider having exposure in assets outside of crypto: property, investment properties, passive income in stocks/etfs/bonds etc. I also need AUD to live / pay bills / pay the tax man. One consideration is Australian Banks cracking down on AUD deposits in crypto in recent years. So holding FIAT on exchanges rather than USDT / USDC could be the play in at least the short term. I will likely HODL some $BTC / $ETH and possibly $SOL through this cycle and into the future.
