When I need to better understand a subject I like to rely on a professional and NOT a politician masquerading as a doctor, a public health official or a lawyer. While it does not require a rocket scientist to know Justice Clarence Thomas is corrupt, I do like the idea of asking a constitutional lawyer if he can be held to account, given that Chief Justice Roberts is of the opinion that they are a law unto themselves. And the American people have no right to hold them accountable. #DemsAct #DemVoice1 #wtpBLUE #ONEV1 #FAM46

In the absence of federal legislation, states can lead on providing paid family leave for hard-working Latinos. New Mexico missed a crucial chance to join the 11 states already delivering for working families. unidosus.org/press-releases…

Silicon Valley Bank failure raises concerns about letting mid-size banks off the hook for stress tests and other bank rules. We hope it stays contained. 2008 made clear that when banks fail, working-class & people of color face the worst economic fallout and lingering effects. 🧵

Making the #CTC fully refundable in 2021 had the largest impact on families with children with the lowest incomes. It was the first time that the families in the lowest income quintile received benefits almost on par with their middle-income peers. Now? Wide gaps have returned.

The Tax Policy Center estimates that in 2022, the combined benefit of the EITC, CTC, and Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit was, on average, $4,770 for the lowest income families. That’s about $3,000 less than under 2021 law. @TaxPolicyCenter @ElaineMaag @nwlc @womenknowlaw @tax

“During 2021, child poverty fell to a record low of 5.2%. 2.9 million children were lifted out of poverty due to the Child Tax Credit, and about 1.2 million of them were Latino.”—@BrayanLRosaRod1 talks about the importance of advocating for tax credit policies. #Changemakers23

The #AmericanRescuePlan made many changes to the #ChildTaxCredit, including larger amounts per child & full refundability at $0 income—making the poorest kids eligible. If current law's CTC was adjusted for inflation, it would do little for poverty w/o full refundability at $0:

Imagine that we build a tax system that supports all taxpayers regardless of their tax ID. We have the means... now we just have to find the will.

The Inflation Reduction Act allots $80B in new funding for the IRS. Today on our site, #EGgrantee Shayak Sarkar of @UCDavisLaw writes that some of this needs to be deployed toward decreasing the barriers to the use of ITINs in tax filings. Learn why: equitablegrowth.org/including-immi…
