Alongside our new research, we’ve written to the Chancellor with 120+ organisations calling for an urgent extension to the Household Support Fund which ends next month. The clock is ticking with devastating consequences if @Jeremy_Hunt doesn’t act now. bit.ly/496bUQg

We will always lead with a child centered approach. Our young carers can rest assured that how they identify or express themselves will be respected and that they will be kept safe at our services.

With this proposed Advanced British Standard, it is vital that the outdated 21-hour study rule for Carers Allowance is scrapped. Otherwise, young carers caring for significant numbers of hours a week will be excluded from Carers Allowance and face even greater financial pressure.
Rishi Sunak@RishiSunak

1/ We’re creating a new, combined single qualification. The Advanced British Standard brings together the very best of A levels and T levels. This is a long-term reform that will take time to get right and extra funding to deliver. No child will be left behind, here’s how🧵👇

For many young carers - not being able to be in contact with home during school hours isn't a question of convenience, but rather something that can significantly impact their ability to concentrate, or even attend school at all. It's vital young carers are properly considered(1)

“It’s vital that the hundreds of thousands of young carers in England are exempt from any complete ban on mobile phones in schools, which will make their lives even harder." Our full response to the proposed complete ban on pupils using phones at school👇 carers.org/news-and-media…

@HelenBevan If the focus of an organisation is on meetings rather than actual work being delivered there's most likely a bigger problem to solve. Could the meetings themselves, who chairs them content etc be creating the lateness via reluctance.

It’s easy to think “it’s just a few minutes.” But as the number of people that you hold up increases, the true cost of being late scales rapidly. Being 10 mins late to a meeting with 10 others is 100 minutes. I'm doing some work on improving meeting practice currently so this sketch speaks to me. It comes from @sketchplanator, one of the most impactful visual artists on Twitter.

@HelenBevan Not to mention those who have caring roles, dependents, have to rely on public transport, don't have the psychic powers others apparently have to predict traffic issues and accidents. As someone with a disability I find dashing across town meeting to meeting really impactful.

@HelenBevan I mean of course maybe we shouldn't forget that those people in the meeting aren't pound signs, they're humans with their own competing needs. This monetising of everyone as if we're all identical is abelist and short sighted. It's not how we build positive culture.

Deprived, hidden, seldom heard - these are very inappropriate, classist and quite often racialised terms. They don't speak to action or working WITH communities either. It's not okay to describe young carers this way.

That represents an INCREASE in the number of 5, 6 and 7 year olds providing 50 hours of care a week since 2011. No child should be providing 50 hours of care, yet nearly 15,000 children are. This is why work of @CarersTrust @YCAlliance @APPGYCandYAC continues to be so vital (2)
