Current Ebola update as of 5 June 2026 Four patients have successfully recovered and been discharged. The 3 new cases were contacts to confirmed cases who have been in institutional quarantine by the Ministry of Health. Unfortunately, one person, a Congolese national passed on. The Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety apprehended 551 drivers & riders over the past week for various traffic offenses. The offenses included: -Driving a Motor Vehicle in a dangerous mechanical condition (DMC) – 185 -Careless Overtaking – 84 -Driving Without a valid driving license – 121 -Riding Without a Helmet – 60 -Illegal Vehicle Modification – 38 -Dangerous loading – 24 -Violation of traffic directions – 21 -Riding Without a valid riding license – 13 - Violating route charts – 3 - Abandoning a vehicle on the Road – 1 These enforcement operations are ongoing. All drivers & riders are urged to obey traffic rules & regulations to enhance road safety & prevent crashes

Intensified operations have been conducted in Bushenyi, where several drivers were arrested for carrying excess passengers & transporting some in a manner that compromises safe driving. Others were also found seated in vehicle boots & were apprehended for accepting to be carried in such dangerous positions. They will be arraigned in court at the appropriate time. Let us all be mindful of our actions on the road, good decisions save lives, while bad ones cost lives. #RoadSafety

PIPPING AND CHEVRON CEREMONY HELD FOR PROMOTED JUNIOR OFFICERS IN MBARARA The South Western Administrative Region of the Uganda Prisons Service has held a pipping and chevron ceremony to honor recently promoted junior officers from Mbarara Main and Mbarara Women Prisons. The ceremony was presided over by Mr. Walter Atuzo, Senior Superintendent of Prisons and Regional Prisons Commander (RPC) for the South Western Region. He congratulated the officers upon their promotions and urged them to remain disciplined, hardworking, and committed to their duties. The distribution of promotions across the region showed a varied pattern. Mbarara Main Prisons received the highest number of promotions with 45 officers, followed by Bushenyi Main Prisons with 43 officers. Other key stations included Kakiika with 40 promotions and Kiburara Farm with 35 promotions, marking them as major centers for staff advancement during this cycle. In terms of ranks, most promotions were concentrated at the lower levels of the junior staff structure. Out of a total of 336 promotions across the region, Lance Corporals (L/Cpl) formed the largest group with 132 officers, followed by Sergeants with 103 officers. Higher ranks within the junior category saw fewer promotions, with 8 officers promoted to Principal Officer I (PO I) and 9 officers commissioned as Principal Officer II. Additionally, 6 officers were promoted to Chief Warder Grade I, 11 to Chief Warder Grade II, and 21 to Chief Warder Grade III. Mr. Atuzo emphasized that promotion comes with greater responsibility and called upon the officers to uphold professionalism, integrity, and the core values of the Uganda Prisons Service.
