In my 200 level, I had a lecturer who liked me a lot. He showed it openly and would often give me gifts. I told my best friend about him, and she said that if he ever asked me out, I should date him. But he never did. When our results were released, I was the only one who got an A in his course. A few others passed, but this same friend had a carryover. She later begged me to help her talk to the lecturer, but I told her I couldn’t discuss something like that with him. The next thing I saw, she shared our private WhatsApp conversation in our group chat, claiming I was dating the lecturer and that was why I got the A. The rumour spread quickly in my department, and a panel was set up to recheck my script. They did and I still had my A. I cried so much. That was the end of our friendship. It’s been 8 years now.

This morning I heard my neighbour and his wife arguing…and the issue? Omo it’s deep. Apparently before they got married, the man suggested they should run the house 50:50. They’ve been doing that for like 3 years now. Now they want to start having kids… the woman said since everything has been equal, they should use a surrogate and both split the cost. She even priced it lmao… about 14 million, so 7 million each and she is cool with it, apparently she has found a surrogate. The man rejected the offer😭 that it’s the woman’s job to carry his pregnancy… and why will he marry and another woman will give birth for him? The woman said it’s unfair… if everything has been 50:50, why should she be the only one to go through pregnancy pain alone? When she is also contribute in paying her hospital bill and other baby stuff. As I’m typing this, both of them have called their families, it’s about to be along night lol. 8 months of talking, I Finally received him at the airport. The mouth odor received me first. Voice notes. Video calls. Late night conversations. This man could talk. Funny. Smart. Intentional. I was at that airport 30 minutes early. He walked through those doors and I ran to hug him. Then he opened his mouth to say my name. I heard it before I processed it. Something ancient and powerful hit my nose.😭 I told myself it was jet lag. Long flight. Recycled air. Dehydration. I gave that man every excuse in the book. Day 3 same thing. Day 5 I was sitting across from him at dinner watching his mouth move and hearing nothing because I was calculating how to bring this up without ending everything we had built in 8 months. I said nothing. He went back abroad. We talked less after that. Drifted slowly. Never told him why. Till today he probably thinks the distance killed it. Baby the distance was not the problem. I just couldn’t spend my life turning my face every time you said I love you. 😭
