There’s been a lot of confusion about the Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) program that @AirResources will be voting on this week. Created by Gov. Schwarzenegger in 2009, it’s made CA a leader in cleaner fuels to protect against pollution. But it does a lot more than that! 🧵

In 2022 alone, California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard (#LCFS) reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 26 million metric tons – the equivalent of taking 5.8 million gas-powered cars off the road. A strong, technology-neutral program remains crucial to meet 2030 carbon reduction goals in California. That’s why we’re asking the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to preserve the LCFS. With the support of RNG Coalition, bipartisan lawmakers sent a letter to Secs. Granholm and Vilsack that calls for qualifying additional RNG-to-clean hydrogen production pathways for the Sec. 45V credit. The letter urges DOE and USDA to advise the Treasury Dept. toward a final Sec. 45V rulemaking recognizing the holistic benefits of agricultural #RNG as a clean hydrogen feedstock. RNG Coalition supports timely issuance of a final rule that captures both the lifecycle benefits of RNG-to-clean hydrogen and other key considerations governing sustainable development, deployment and utilization of RNG. 👏 Many thanks to Sen. I see the "livestock CH4 is/is not the same as fossil CH4" debate has resurfaced again🙄 Y'all! This is very well studied. Here's a thread on the science. First tho, both these claims are untrue: - livestock and fossil CH4 are the same - livestock CH4 doesn't warm the planet

Under CARB's Standardized Regulatory Impact Assessment released yesterday, the average CI value of corn #ethanol (55 gCO2e/MJ) won't be enough to generate #LCFS credits in 2035. Same problem for average CI #biodiesel and #renewable diesel in the 2040s.

US EPA just came up with the latest GHG emission numbers. Agriculture contributes 10% of direct emissions or 11% including electricity use.
