The way Dr Francis Su described what mathematics for human flourishing really means in the latest ep of @MathTherapy may have legit changed my life & I truly believe it may change yours too. All I have to say is that @mathyawp has officially brought #YOLO back & I’m here for it🙏

Dr Francis Su blew my mind when he talked about math SKILLS vs math VIRTUES on this week’s episode of @MathTherapy. What do you think?! DYING TO KNOW👇

@isaacsoon2 What is the quality of the journal compared to others in your field? If high, I’d revise it. If average, I might go somewhere else.

Only just now discovering @TheMathGuru’s podcast on math education (Math Therapy). What a good podcast! Strongly recommend to math educators/researchers. In response to requests for guests next season, I’d love to hear Francis Su (Mathematics For Human Flourishing)!

I don't usually jump into Twitter debates, but I'm ready to offer my 2 cents on the growth mindset meta-analyses. I've already seen comments that I agree with pointing out that growth mindsets aren't intended to be considered as an overall main effect; (1/n)

@GaleMorrisonEd @MrLandesman @pgliljedahl I understand your reservation, but the context is important. The chapter does not say that kids should be able to choose which Qs to complete. Rather, it says students can skip if they’ve already demonstrated proficiency on a skill (which is much less controversial)

People are sometimes surprised to hear I came to my faith in Jesus as a conscious decision, rather than being raised in it. CT invited me to share my story. ps. I didn’t get to choose the title. The piece is more about my struggle to find meaning in life. christianitytoday.com/ct/2023/july-a…

Is there anything in academic writing more annoying than authors who write “The astute reader will…”? Like, please don’t patronize me as a reader 🙃

@mathyawp Someone gave me a tip! @KhanTeachMath at Brock University has done a lot of empirical work on Mathematics For Multispecies' Flourishing, mostly focusing on teachers. Really interesting research!

links between flourishing and academic achievement? For instance, have any studies examined how flourishing or affective engagement might lead to higher achievement later? #mtbos #mathchat

Has anyone tried to measure "flourishing" in K-12 mathematics? I'm looking for a survey or some other instrument to measure flourishing, preferably as conceptualized by @mathyawp, but I would love to see anything related! I'm also interested in learning whether anyone has drawn..

Watch a teacher make roughly ~1,000 instructional decisions in about 45 seconds. Only a few of them are about the lesson but the lesson depends on ALL of them. This is one of the hardest things to explain about teaching to people who have never taught.
