A few numbers to put SpaceX AI satellites into perspective: • Launch cost per satellite: ~$1M realistic, ~$400k if Starship becomes fully reusable. • Compute per satellite: roughly 1/3 of a modern Dell AI rack today, maybe 1/8 of what the next generation delivers. Now do the math. Even under very optimistic assumptions, a dedicated AI satellite likely takes around 15 years just to pay for itself. People hear “AI in space” and imagine infinite margins. Physics, power generation, heat rejection, and launch costs still exist.

I don’t think people realize how utterly game changing @SpaceX AI Satellites are going to be.
These Satellites will basically be NVIDIA racks out in space that are being powered 100% by the Sun, which is absolutely FREE.
Instead of using grid electricity, on-site generation, or huge amounts of power and water for cooling, the GPUs get powered and cooled 24/7 at essentially zero marginal cost.

Elon Musk spent forty four billion dollars to buy Twitter, then tried to back out of the deal, then was forced by a court to go through with it anyway.
He said he was saving free speech. What he actually did was overpay at the top, load the company with debt, and watch the value fall by an estimated two thirds in under two years. Advertisers left. Engineers left. The product got worse.
He fired most of the staff and called it efficiency. Then he spent months personally posting the exact kind of content that drove the advertisers away in the first place, and acted surprised when the revenue followed them out the door.
This is the operator founders study. The lesson everyone takes is bold conviction. The actual lesson is a man so certain he is the smartest person in every room that he torched tens of billions of dollars to prove a point.
He did not save the town square. He bought it at the peak and ran it into the ground.

Genuine question: would the xAI + Anthropic + Google compute deals have happened if it were still a stand-alone company...?
If it were never merged with SpaceX?
And if the answer is "probably not," why?
Neither of the deals have anything to do with Space.
