Bloomberg's Matthew Brooker lays out why President Trump is uniquely positioned to bring Jimmy Lai home. As @POTUS prepares to meet President Xi in China next week, securing Jimmy's release would be a humanitarian win, and one that would resonate at home and abroad. At 78, in fragile health and nearly five years in solitary confinement, Jimmy doesn't have time to wait. Read here: bloom.bg/4wdKkfU

Welcome new alert from MI5 on CCP Transnational Repression. @ShabanaMahmood Now, targeting of UK residents must lead to designating the CCP regime under the Foreign Influence Registration Scheme. @Nus_Ghani @MartinCallanan Today’s T’graph:

Guilty Verdicts in China Spy Case Shows Why @HumanRightsCtte Report on CCP Transnational Repression Got It Right and Why @FCDOGovUK Should Remove Its Block on Listing China - with Russia and Iran - In The Top Tier Of The Foreign Influence Registration Scheme (FIRS) - as the Report unanimously recommended @DesmondSwayne @alexsobel Full membership and report See committees.parliament.uk/publications/4… This conviction and sentence as a landmark moment of accountability. It is a sobering reminder that the liberties we cherish in Britain must be actively defended, not merely assumed. Those who seek to extend intimidation beyond their own borders should be in no doubt that such conduct has no place here. The rule of law in this country remains firm, and it applies to all without fear or favour. Now @Keir_Starmer @ShabanaMahmood @DavidLammy @DanJarvisMBE @RTHondavehanson must take decisive action and recognise the threat within. @MPIainDS @HelenaKennedyKC @TomTugendhat @aliciakearns @timloughton See x.com/hk_watch/statu…

‼️BE ALERT - #China #CCP's campaign of transnational repression in the UK is alive and real. For almost ten years I have known that I cannot go to China or #HongKong. And for the best part of 8 years I have received regular threatening, anonymous letters and emails. But today, it would seem, the CCP or someone acting on its behalf showed up literally outside my home. This morning I came out of my front door, to cycle to the swimming pool for my morning swim, as I usually do. I picked up my recycling bins that had been emptied earlier in the morning, and put them back where they belong, and then prepared to cycle off. In the midst of this, a Chinese woman stood on the pavement next to the neighbouring property, and brazenly aimed her phone at me, taking several photographs. Then - equally brazenly - she walked away. I have reported this to the police. Let me be abundantly clear. I am not anti-China or anti-Chinese. On the contrary, I love China, have many Chinese friends, and have spent many years in and around China. It is the CCP and its repressive and aggressive behaviour that I oppose. I am often photographed with Chinese and Hong Kong people, and usually happy to be photographed, if someone asks my permission. But I am not happy to be photographed by a complete stranger, without my permission or even any conversation, right outside my home. If the #CCP wants photos of me (and I am sure they have plenty), there are many online that a brief google search will reveal. Taking photos of me right outside my home is a deliberate invasion of privacy clearly designed to intimidate and threaten me. Well, as with all the other attempts - the anonymous letters and emails as well as official threats from the Hong Kong police force - this won't succeed. I will take basic precautions and be wise, but I certainly won't be silenced. Indeed, this makes me once again want to redouble my efforts to support human rights for the people of China and Hong Kong and sound the alarm about the CCP's campaign of influence, infiltration and intimidation in our country and others. In case the CCP wants an extra copy of a photo of me on my bike on my way to my morning swim, I'm happy to oblige 👇But incidents of uninvited, unwanted, intimidation of the kind that awaited me outside my home today will be reported to the @metpoliceuk

Why do Reform think it’s acceptable to promote a candidate who not only worked for the Hong Kong Government in that time, but openly praised Orwellian CCP repression? The Chinese Communist Party’s brutal crackdown on Hong Kong was rightly condemned across British politics. Millions of people lost their liberties. Thousands were beaten, arrested, and worse. Brave democracy activists continue to be hounded by the CCP even in the UK. thetimes.com/article/8037a5…

Peter Mandelson’s firm, Global Counsel, worked on behalf of a Chinese state entity linked to the country’s military and security establishment to undermine British scrutiny of a CCP-led corporate coup within Imagination Technologies, the UK’s second biggest microchip company. Afterwards, Imagination’s technology and core assets were transferred to two Chinese companies, one part-owned by the Russian government. Imagination’s “military grade” technology is in roughly 25% of smartphones and 40% of modern cars. ANY COMPETENT VETTING would have raised this as a red flag. In response to a reporter’s question on whether China provides military or dual-use materials to Iran, the Chinese spokesperson stated: "China opposes the illegal military strikes against Iran by Israel and the United States in violation of international law, supports Iran in safeguarding its sovereignty, security, territorial integrity, and national dignity, and supports Iran in protecting its legitimate rights and interests." In Chinese political discourse, this essentially means "yes."

With all the news, the ABSOLUTELY STAGGERING details of the #HKETO foreign interference trial are going unnoticed. Here's a 🧵 of some of the jaw-dropping details from the prosecution: 1. Defendants pour water under the door of the victim, then force entry (📽️ below) bbc.co.uk/news/articles/… 2. Defendants allegedly surveil victims' flat with an endoscopic camera. instagram.com/reels/DVicSKTj… 3. Defendant repeatedly knocked on the victim's door while claiming to be building maintenance in order to gain entry. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/… 4. Defendants deliver package to the victim at their address while filming the encounter. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/… 5. Defendant uses access to the Home Office ‘Atlas’ immigration database in order to obtain personal information. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/… 6. Defendant attends anti-china protests using a fake police ID card. news.sky.com/story/city-of-… 7. Defendant sent a list of names back to handler in Hong Kong naming several UK lawmakers and HK pro-democracy supporters. Including @MPIainDS independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/… 8. Defendant allegedly paid £4,500 per month to record and track local pro-democracy campaigners. independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/… 9. Defendant and former Hong Kong Police officer discussed deploying local Chinese triads (14K) to “teach Mr. Cheng a lesson”. In a separate incident, pro-democracy protestors were beaten up in London’s Chinatown by the members from the same triad group. pulsehknews.com/20260311chu_fa… Please note that this work was allegedly commissioned and paid for by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office - Hong Kong's de facto 'embassy' in the UK. Let this serve as a rebuke to those who claim that a mega-embassy (with attendant increase in PRC diplomats) will have no impact on interference.

The man in these photos is a father, an entrepreneur, and a defender of a free press. His name is #JimmyLai. For nearly five years, he has been held in solitary confinement for defending democracy. And at 78 years old with deteriorating health, he doesn’t have much time left. As @POTUS prepares for his upcoming trip to China, we’re hopeful he will do everything he can to help #FreeJimmyLai.

Wow. Ai Wei Wei rolling out straight-up Beijing talking points, almost totally unchallenged. I think he may be Beijing's most successful transnational repression story yet. Selected excerpts for this *truly whack* interview: China has “No intention to invade another nation” 🤡 “Taiwan is an issue between Taiwan and China” 🤡 Starmer “made a good visit” to China because British people are “pragmatic” and “independent” in their foreign policy. (ed: could have been drafted in Beijing). Q: Do you feel china is censoring more than 10 years ago? “China has much more confidence” (ed: 🤯🤡🤡) "I’m not attacking the state” “I am not angry” with the state Chinese authorities "don’t care about tweets" (ed: 🤡 they really care - a lot of the evidence against imprisoned, innocent journalist Jimmy Lai is tweets) Early in the interview, Ai Wei Wei talks about his desire to visit his mother every year. The plan fact is that he would not be able to do this if he were still producing the work and statements of the like for which he has become famous. It would not be surprising if his visits were being permitted at the price of his silence, or even in exchange for his agreement to farm out this unsophisticated propaganda. Sadly, this isn't far-fetched and well within the CCP modus operandi. In fact, it's pretty textbook: 1. Wants to see his mother every year 2. Just seen her after 10 years 3. Sudden thirst for interviews after protracted silence 4. Reversal of well established criticism of the Party State, adoption of Beijing talking points. Throw in a bit of family intimidation, and you're there. Transnational repression works, people. And governments are far too slow to develop a response.

🚨NEW: Peter Mandelson’s security vetting ahead of his US ambassador role was fast-tracked by No10 despite known links to Jeffrey Epstein. The process normally take months of digging into your life, finances, and connections. But in Mandelson’s case, exceptions were made. He was granted clearance to view “top secret” material after just three weeks of security checks amid pressure from No 10 officials. Here's the inside story of how the Govt pushed through their pick for Britain's top diplomatic role in the face of serious ethical and national security concerns. Based on open-source research and interviews with nine government and intelligence sources. W/@kitty_donaldson inews.co.uk/news/no-10-fas…
