Once Upon a Time, Back in the 90s...
My handle in the scene was The Resistance, Resistance, sometimes just Resist. For a short but memorable time in 1995, I was a senior member of Razor 1911, one of the most respected warez and demogroups in history.
Razor 1911 (RZR) was founded in Norway in 1985. It started as a demogroup before moving into warez in 1987 and is still considered one of the longest-running groups in the scene.
When a new game was released by a gaming company, sometimes even before it had hit the shelves, RZR had it in their hands, and the process was fast and competitive.
- A supplier got the original copy.
- Crackers removed the protection and often added a cracktro.
- It was tested, archived, given a slick NFO with ASCII art and uploaded to a distsite (BBS/FTP).
Couriers from the group would then race (FXP) to spread it across all BBSes and FTPs worldwide before any rival group could beat them.
The goal was simple: be the first group to get the game everywhere. The entire cycle, from the title's release to global availability, could happen in just a few hours.
I served as sysop of "The Private Collection", one of Razor 1911’s key U.S. distribution sites. My role was to keep the BBSs and, later, the FTP distros stable, clean, and online 24/7 so our couriers could quickly grab releases and spread them across the globe.
In 1995, a typical 10–20 MB game took 1.5 to 4 hours to download on 14.4k or 28.8k modems. By the late 90s, full CD ISO files (300–700 MB) could take 12 to 45 hours on a 56k modem, often spanning 2–4 days due to disconnections and line noise. A lot of us left our computers running overnight or through entire weekends just to finish one game.
Over its lifetime, Razor 1911 has cracked and released an estimated 800 to 1,200 titles. Some of their most notable releases include:
- Doom II (1994)
- Hexen (1995)
- Quake (1996)
- Duke Nukem 3D (1996)
- Command & Conquer: Red Alert (1996)
Confession’s over… Enjoy your day 🙃😌

@DavidZita1 @FOXFOOTY Intentional action. No amount of good behaviour gets you off that.

Scott Pendlebury given one-match ban for incident with Josh Worrell. No ban in over 400 games. Collingwood surely argue ‘exemplary record’ is ‘exceptional and compelling’ circumstance and try downgrade to a fine. If that doesn’t work, would be very surprised. @FOXFOOTY

@MichaelWhiting Dogs looked fitter and out ran us. We usually don't start the season in peak fitness though. Had our chances to win it. Will improve, don't win flags in March.
English

@RalphyHeraldSun They do realise how many less trades will happen because of this. They want more trades and action in the off season. This doesnt just impact bidding clubs, it ripples to other trades.
Think there are better ways. Increase cost, ensure at least 1 pick is in the same round etc

Andrew Dillon tells SEN the commission will consider these changes tomorrow. It might take another commission meeting before they are locked in but a change in the bidding system will mean clubs can’t keep stockpiling mid-draft picks to secure academy, father son talent

@CalTwomey Incentivise keeping player!? They brought in free agency to create more player movement. They are just making shit up as they go along.

Under this proposed change, a case of West Coast getting pick No.2 for Oscar Allen wouldn't happen.
With the first eight picks protected, the band one compo would see Eagles get pick No.9 for Allen.
Aim to incentivise possible match & trade deals or incentivise keeping player.

Exclusive - Free agency compensation picks would not start in the draft until after pick No.8 under a significant change being considered by the AFL. The AFL has told clubs it intends to take the change to Commission as soon as March. Story 👉 afl.com.au/news/1464575/t…

@CalTwomey Hilarious to attack brisbane over this when we were a basket case not long ago and couldn't keep players. Hopefully the saints have a culture that backs up their huge bucks to keep players.

"I can understand fears about having to pay fair value for players. I appreciate it's a novel concept for some people."
Saints CEO Carl Dilena has fired back at Chris Fagan's suggestion the Saints' lucrative contracts pose a "danger" to the AFL.

@benjamincowen @kale_abe Difference between a reason and an excuse. Reason is a cause, it happens before the event, excuse comes after to justify the event

@kale_abe maybe btc is just in a bear market like every other midterm year

@R1chardMaur1ce At worst you hit a strong bounce and reversal, which is just confirmation and you end up buying at the same price anyway
English

VALUE INVESTORS ARE DOING IT WRONG
tl;dr: they rush to buy and wait too long to sell (they should do the opposite).
Right now I see them rush to buy the dip, catching falling knives.
Why the rush? Prices usually remain at the lows for weeks or months. And at least this way you get to buy into a confirmed low vs blindly buying all the way down.
The opposite is also true: prices rarely stay at their top for long, so you have to be quick to take profit. Again, value investors either wait for higher prices or average up!
English

@R1chardMaur1ce @ManuelOnchain People going overboard because they are acting on what they want rather than what is in front of them. Could be a nice tradable bounce, but calls of new ATH or up only are delusional.

@jasonpizzino Is he complaining about you literally being right with your calls? How dare you be calling it going down for months when it actually is going down. Now you want to give me hints about a rally? The nerve.
English

@jasonpizzino Take advice from someone i know and short the shit out of it
