At Karen Read's vehicle auction event yesterday, MassLive got a close-up video view of the car. You will notice there are "scratch marks" just above the previously broken taillight. Thanks to @KPIONU for pointing out that strangely the condition of this portion of the car now differs from the documented photos presented in trial (2nd photo). While the car may have been detailed (cleaned / taillight fixed) by current owner Bill Brussard at JB Auto Care in Weymouth, MA, traces still remain of what happened to John O'Keefe that fateful night. How could ARCCA rule out a pedestrian interaction when they were in complete darkness as to the preexisting condition of the rear passenger lens? Without that foundational information, they lack the ability to scientifically disprove anything. It was January in MA meaning the tensile strength of the lens was decreased by long term exposure to the cold. And varying temperatures (day/night) markedly decrease ductility due to thermal contraction/internal stress. And even beyond the fact that the lens was brittled via months of exposure to the cold, there is no way of knowing whether the protruding lens experienced any previous incident resulting in a hairline fracture or other damage. If delivered with candor, ARCCA would have reported findings as qualified and probabilistic rather than definitive to any degree of scientific certainty. These guys were never independent, lacked the foundation to make the claims they did under oath, and - despite all of that - still basically proved the viability of CWs case via the 24mph Rescue Randy test. Of further interest is their avoidance of the Techstream data despite advertising their expertise of same.
