德国总理兼基民盟（CDU）主席默茨近日表示，在当前情况下，他不会建议自己的子女前往美国接受教育或工作，理由是当地社会氛围突然出现了变化。
默茨周五在维尔茨堡举行的德国天主教大会（Katholikentag）活动中，于一场与年轻人对话的论坛上表示：“如今我不会建议我的孩子去美国，在那里接受教育并工作，因为那里的社会氛围突然发生了变化。”
他进一步指出，美国的社会环境已经迅速转变，“如今，即使是最优秀、受过良好教育的人，在美国也很难找到工作。”

在国内议题方面，默茨同时回应了近期围绕德国工作态度的争论。他驳斥外界指控基民盟认为德国人懒惰的说法：“在我的政党中，从来没有人说德国人懒惰，我也没有这样说过。”不过，他承认自己在沟通上存在不足，“我知道我需要改善沟通，让这个信息能被更好理解。”
默茨指出，他的本意是强调德国与国际相比，整体工作时间相对较短。他最后提问：“如果我们希望维持今天的繁荣，难道我们不应该共同卷起袖子，好好努力工作吗？”
