But coach. They make sure they always hit arms, legs, and and every session 🙄

Just because you like to workout or you used to do X,Y,Z or you “train” so and so doesn’t mean you’re actually qualified to run the weight room and field work for athletic programs. There’s an art and science to it that takes practice, education & failure to be an S&C coach

HS sports:
Lifting with your team 2x/wk in the off-season doesn’t always guarantee you will win a title. It just increases your likelihood of success.
But not training with your team 2x/wk in the off-season almost always guarantee that you will not win a title. It wildly decreases your chances of success.

I'll never forget the moment it clicked.
It's the 2015 District meet.
My distance boys are warming up.
And I'm walking around giving instructions to athletes who already know what to do.
"Make sure you get your strides in."
"Don't forget to check in at the clerk."
"Stay loose between events."
They knew all of this.
We'd done it a hundred times.
But I kept talking.
Because talking made me feel like I was in control.
One of my seniors looked at me mid-stride and said, "Coach, we're good."
Not rude.
Just honest.
I walked back to the end zone and watched them finish warming up without me hovering over them.
They looked calm.
Relaxed.
Ready.
I was the one who wasn't ready.
That was the day I realized I'd been coaching my nerves, not my team.
Every extra instruction was me trying to manage my own anxiety by staying busy.
Now at big meets, I say less than I do at practice.
My athletes don't need a different coach when it matters.
They need the same one.
