2 points behind arsenal since game 17 and now 5 points behind arsenal in game 37
This is not the old City team anymore
English

@ColinWoodfull @slbsn Try to beat Bournemouth first before you’re thinking about goals

However, it’s so clear and obvious it will be Maresca.

Getting Kompany in would be the only thing that can soften the blow of Pep leaving. Get it done.

🧵 7/8
By 1943 he had been flying combat operations almost continuously for three years.
He suffered what the RAF doctors called operational fatigue. A complete breakdown. He was taken off the front line. He became a test pilot on the new Hawker Typhoon. He never flew operational combat again.
He stayed in the RAF after the war. He retired in 1961 as a Squadron Leader. He took a job with a firm of commodity brokers in the City of London. He kept his memories of 92 Squadron and Biggin Hill and Malta entirely to himself.
In the 1970s he began writing.
He wrote at night on lined paper. He wrote about Roger Bushell, who had been captured by the Germans in October 1940, escaped Stalag Luft III in the Great Escape, and been murdered by the Gestapo in March 1944. He wrote about the German formations like insects on a summer evening. He wrote about flying off the deck of HMS Furious into the Mediterranean to save Malta.
When he finished the manuscript he put it in a drawer. He did not think it was good enough.
It sat there for nearly 30 years.
In 2002 a friend convinced him to send the manuscript to a publisher. Penguin published it as First Light. It became an immediate bestseller and is now considered one of the greatest aviation memoirs ever written. The BBC later adapted parts of his story for television.
In 2017 the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight invited him to climb back into a Spitfire cockpit for the first time in 70 years. He was 95.
He died at home in Cornwall on July 18 2018. He was 96 years old.
The boy from Walthamstow.
The 18 year old who climbed into a Spitfire he had never seen.
The 20 year old who led eight Spitfires off the deck of HMS Furious to save Malta.
The old man who finally wrote it all down before it was forgotten.

You are 17 years old.
You have applied to join the Royal Air Force on a short service commission.
Less than a year from now you will be flying a Spitfire into combat against the German Luftwaffe over the skies of southern England.
You will be one of the youngest pilots in Fighter Command.
This is the story of Geoffrey Wellum..🧵1/8
