Going back through sites impacted by the 5/3 update (and beyond) and still seeing major connections with previous core updates. Again, some sites recovered fully from the March core update on 5/3... Here's a site that got hit hard by the October core update, wasn't impacted by March, but is dropping heavily in early May. So whether Google decoupled algorithms from broad core updates and ran them separately, or not, they pushed something big in early May. And that's coming off a huge update with the March core update. I have a huge list of sites documented that have been impacted on 5/3, 5/6, 5/8, etc. Stay tuned.

Ok so apparently the May 5 portion of the algorithm update hasn't rolled out, despite the enormous volatility I've been sharing in the last 2 weeks, and the major drops affecting dozens of publishers (some of whom thought, up to this point, that they were hit by the May 5 algorithm update)

@lilyraynyc From my perspective, they seem to be punishing brands who have any kind of paid content, regardless of whether it's produced in-house or by third parties. It's like they're trying to take out all publisher revenue streams.

Many major publisher sites have seen even further visibility drops since May 5, when Google rolled out the "site reputation abuse" portion of its spam updates. Several of these sites certainly had/have section that qualify as Google's definition of "site reputation abuse." But not all of them.

@lilyraynyc Do you think the ads are relevant here or is it just publishers full stop? I read an interesting piece recently that suggested there could be a new site engagement metric that uses average pages visited to judge quality, and this is generally lower for publishers than commercial.

Almost every single site within the top 100 biggest % losers of this core update is a publisher site that makes money off ads. (No, the same is not true of the winners) I'll be sharing this data in my upcoming article(s) but this is the first major trend that stood out to me.

@sainsburys hello, you must be having a horrible day, sorry about that. Is there any way to tell us if our order has will/won't come? For example, if there's no receipt, should we assume it's not coming?

@Tesco Hello! Is your app having a bad day. Every time I try to sign in it gives me an error message, then automatically tries to sign me in again in an endless loop of failure that I can only escape by quitting the app.
