Why do Muslims oppose Vande Mataram? Vande Mataram is derived from the novel Anandamath by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. Both the author and the novel were explicitly anti-Muslim, and the song elevates Indian subcontinent to the status of a Hindu goddess Durga and calls for her worship.
