@LaDue Give kids time to read. Increase their access to books. Encourage and support their reading choices. Foster reading relationships between kids. Celebrate and cede space & time for their opinions about books. Teach them to read critically.

In “my” districts we don’t trade tens or hundreds when adding/subtracting, we SHIFT tens. This applies to concrete models as well as algorithms. And we use number bonds and horizontal addition for a long time. Vertical addition in grade 1 can be risky. It’s a grade 4 standard!
