Another day, another visit to an awesome @DukeEnergy site. Our Knightdale Battery, east of Raleigh, is our largest battery on the entire system. It can provide 100 MW of capacity for up to two hours.

As Florida continues to experience the coldest air in the state since 2018, Duke Energy is asking all customers to voluntarily reduce their energy use from 5-9 a.m. EST on Monday, Feb. 2, to help lessen the energy demand on the power grid. spr.ly/6011h1NKZ.

Our @DukeEnergy crews are seeing challenging conditions across the Carolinas. The roads are slick and dangerous. Our operations team is seeing a number of cars crashing into our power poles which is causing outages. Please, if you can, try and stay off the roads.

The grid remains stable and MISO has ended its EEA2. Extreme weather will continue over the next few days, and MISO and our members continue to monitor conditions very closely. MISO is currently in a Maximum Generation Warning, which is a notification to prepare for a 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 emergency situation. No public action is needed. For additional information and updates visit our website: ow.ly/2veC50Y2Ulj.

Due to significant winter weather, MISO has issued an Energy Emergency Alert 2 (EEA2) for our North and Central regions. EEA2 is triggered when MISO is facing an energy shortage and needs to increase generation available to meet demand. At this time, MISO does not have a need for public conservation. The extreme cold is causing power usage to increase, and we are also seeing unplanned generator outages. By declaring EEA2, MISO operators can access emergency generation not available under normal conditions. Our operators may also purchase emergency generation from neighboring grids if available. The EEA 2 declaration is scheduled to last until 11 a.m. E.S.T. Please continue to follow our website for additional information: misoenergy.org.

For 120 years @DukeEnergy has relied on hydro power as part of our generation mix to serve customers. Today, nothing has changed. Within minutes, we can get power from those units onto the grid to support customers. A diverse energy mix is a strong and reliable energy mix.

Temperatures are a little warmer this week across our service areas, but our plant operators/technicians are hard at work ensuring safe and reliable power over the holidays. I got to spend a little time at our @DukeEnergy Marshall Plant today where 2 units were on and humming!

Leaders from across Rowan County toured @DukeEnergy Buck Combined Cycle Plant. Our plans call for 2 combustion turbines in the spot where the retired coal plant began supporting the state over a century ago. These efficient natural gas units support our growing customer needs!
