@gamblinglamb Yes and pre the GC requiring affordability checks, operators were in any event looking at things like jobs, salaries, house ownership, source of funds etc. I don’t think the difference between what (most) operators were doing anyway and “financial risk assessments” as now

@VaughanLewis1 @mgaskell12 @GamReg The UK black market has been relatively small because the regulated market has been open and competitive but that will change significantly if/when affordability tests are introduced- particularly as the proposed powers to require payment companies and ISPs to block 1/2

@jamesaknight @AlexO_ Yes and it’s not as if bookmakers need affordability checks as a pretext for closing or restricting accounts - they have been doing that for years

@AlexO_ So many people want to conflate the two issues - using the affordability checks to moan about bookmakers not wanting their unprofitable business.

Obviously I agree with the general point and concerns, but wouldn't it be better to get someone on that's done their brains for 22 years? If a 'professional gambler of 22 years' walks away from the sport, isn't that actually a net gain to racing's coffers one way or another?
