The outgoing Tánaiste has insisted there is nothing "corrupt" in negotiating a coalition deal with Independent TD Michael Lowry. Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin had called for Mr Lowry's resignation in the Dáil following the Moriarty Tribunal in 2011. The Tribunal found the Tipperary TD had a "persuasive" influence in the awarding of Ireland's second mobile phone license. Michael Lowry has always rejected the findings.

Appalled by the unprovoked and brutal attack on two off duty gardai in Temple Bar in the early hours of this morning. My thoughts are with both men and their families, especially the Garda who remains in hospital. I urge anyone with information to contact Gardai.

This year we will recruit over 700 new Defence Forces members - a 69% increase on our 2023 intake. We’ve turned the corner on recruitment, and I look forward to further progress in the transformation of our Army, Air Corps and Naval Service in the years to come.
