Often when gift-giving is discussed, people bring up that it’s hard to do it without expecting something in return, which can complicate things. To me, other issues with it seem much more important, however, like people-pleasing parts and grandiose parts.

@ashleymayer Early studies seem to suggest that how you engage with the LLMs has the biggest impact on whether it's a positive or negative for your cognitive abilities. Those that ask questions to ensure they understand the output, furthering their own knowledge, see positive impact on cog.

Question for my technical friends: I'm a big believer that writing is thinking. It's why I'm hesitant to outsource any writing that matters (like an investment memo) to LLMs, slop factor aside. Is coding thinking? And by that I mean, if you fully outsource the coding work and only prompt and give feedback, do you lose anything? Do you begin to think about problems differently, less creatively? Or is all the thinking in the scoping and the actual coding was always a tax?

How long does it take, how much suffering is needed, before one looks in the mirror and says: “enough, no more, what am I doing to myself and with my life?” This is what surprises me most about humans, not the degeneracy, but the fact how good we are in fooling ourselves and sticking our head in the sand

¨Innerdev, after 20 months of relentless searching, turning inside, and deconstructing my sense of self, i simply could not take it anymore. Something snapped, as if my mind gave up. Since that moment i can´t really describe it, but i am so deeply at peace it is just indescribable. Searching seems utterly useless and absurd. And don´t know how to put it, but as you said,i can now see myself in everything, as if a whole new dimension of reality opened up¨ - Congratulations, you are now awake, or enlightened, or have direct realisation all the time ¨So in the end you always talk about turning inside, but there is really no inside and outside, it is all the same thing¨ - Of course ¨So the whole searching like crazy, is just meant to exhaust the mind until collapses onto itself¨ - Exactly ¨I mean, i have no words for it really, my god, i cannot believe how i lived before and that most humans live that way, this realisation will take years to come to terms with¨ - I know, just take it easy for now ¨Thank you, i really cannot thank you enough, can i come visit soon so we talk a bit how i can function with this realization, i mean, i literally have no idea what to do now but sit around and be happy¨ - Just allow it...and sure....we can have tea soon ------------------------------------------- More or less how our conversation went, do not remember exactly These are the moments i live for This is what matters This is why i do what i do Love it when the rare human being reaches its full potential

@JohnCleese The Life Of Brian was allowed because Jesus himself permitted mockery. Islam doesn’t have this verse.

Did China shut down their Olympic program or something? Not only are they in 14th place, but 25% of their medals were won by Americans.

Sometimes I really think the old days were the last normal time of our lives, and ever since, it feels like we’ve slipped into some alternate reality where nothing makes sense, everyone is on edge, time moves too fast yet too slow, and the world we knew just doesn’t exist anymore.

@InvisibleRules_ @rumilyrics Yeah, was losing my mind until I did some deep inner work. Really think awareness of the abstraction layers / how our egoic mind operates is the best medicine for modernity. Prediction error of egoic perception of the world is only going to increase, can no longer rely on it.

No one knows. And not knowing is terrifying UNLESS you surrender to the outcome. Heres a secret that may help, no one has ever known before, so stop worrying.

@DeItaone in other words only way to prevent France from defaulting and to keep living beyond its means is EU common issuance of debt, which means destroying the credibility of other EU states that have better fiscal discipline

@Noahpinion Put another way... The Ego's core function is individual optimization. Reproduction is a species-level optimization. Our environment no longer right-sizes ego. Century of the self and all that jazz. As a result, we're less likely to perform an act that transcends the self.

Yes. Fertility is declining because humans don't actually want that many kids. And with the rise of social media, one of the last reasons to have kids -- to create your own little human society so you don't feel lonely in old age -- went away.
Richard Hanania@RichardHanania

Tyler with a simple model of fertility decline. People don't actually want children. It's about reliable birth control, and even though it has been around for a while, it takes some time for norms to change. That's why it's happening everywhere. So bleak. marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevolu…

@_ontologic Yeah, and there's a glossing over of the fact that our brain in itself is a massive prediction engine. Until I looked inside and really questioned my belief structures I had no idea how much agency I was outsourcing to abstractions. Most of our 'original thought' simply ain't
