A bilateral @Australian_Navy – @tldm_rasmi (Royal Malaysian Navy) maritime warfare exercise was conducted at HMAS Stirling, involving HMAS Warramunga and KD Lekir. The activity continued a long-standing tradition of RAN–RMN engagement under the Five Power Defence Arrangements and the Malaysia–Australia Joint Defence Program, which together underpin the broader defence relationship. Perseverance in the jungle 💪🍃 The @AustralianArmy's Lieutenant Guy Campbell, of 1 RAR, is the second Australian and the first Australian officer to complete the French Foreign Legion's Jaguar Course. 👏 🇦🇺 The gruelling eight-week course is an elite jungle training program held at the 📍 Equatorial Forest Training Centre, French Guiana, and is widely considered one of the toughest military courses in the world. Major milestone for sovereign defence capability ✈️ A new facility has opened at 📍 RAAF Base Edinburgh, South Australia, which is set to become a regional hub for the maintenance and sustainment of aircraft for the Australian Defence Force and its partners. The $200 million Deep Maintenance Modification Facility (DMMF) will enable long-term, deep maintenance and modification of the @AusAirForce’s P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft in Australia, significantly enhancing operational readiness. The P-8A Poseidon is a cornerstone of Australia’s airborne anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, and search-and-rescue capability, delivering vital maritime and overland intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. Exercise Balikatan 2026 wraps up! 🎉 Over three weeks more than 400 Australian Defence Force personnel stood shoulder to shoulder with 🇵🇭 🇺🇸 🇨🇦 🇳🇿 🇯🇵 🇫🇷 for Exercise Balikatan 2026. From high-end warfighting to joint naval exercises to improving coordination and tactics in cyber defence, the ADF deepened ties with partner nations, improved interoperability across multiple domains and enhanced collective readiness. 🛡️⚓ Balikatan is a long-standing bilateral exercise between @TeamAFP and the United States, with Australia participating since 2014. Apache 5️⃣ & 6️⃣ 🚁 The AH-64E Apache fleet of the @AustralianArmy continues to expand, with the fifth and sixth airframes arriving in Townsville, marking another step in the transformation of Australia’s battlefield aviation capability. 🇦🇺 The AH‑64E Apache brings advanced sensors, weapons and teaming capabilities, preparing for future enhanced integration of crewed and uncrewed systems. A total of 29 AH‑64E Apaches are being acquired from the United States through a Foreign Military Sales agreement under Project LAND 4503. All aircraft are expected to be delivered by 2029. This year marks the 85th anniversary of @AusAirForce squadrons commencing operations with the Royal Air Force's Bomber Command in the Second World War. On 7 June, Bomber Command will be commemorated in Canberra, with #AusAirForce remembering the sacrifice made by our forebears. Members of the public and serving personnel will join veterans and their families at the @AWMemorial to pay tribute to those men and women who served. From the Memorial’s Roll of Honour, we remember 4,149 RAAF personnel who died serving in Bomber Command – 3,539 in operational squadrons and 610 in training units. Drone integration 🎮 In March, the @AustralianArmy's School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering trainees at 📍 Puckapunyal Military Area, teamed up with the School of Armour’s Communications and Surveillance Wing to take their field training to the next level. The Australian Government has announced it will work with the Tasmanian Government to redevelop and transform Hobart’s Derwent Barracks to help deliver new housing and support community growth. This co‑investment brings together all three levels of government to boost housing supply and support local communities, while enabling Defence to invest in future capability. Defence will carefully manage the transition in close consultation with Defence personnel, cadets and the community. The Defence and Veterans Workshop will remain on site following initial consultation. Defence personnel and cadets will not be moved until a suitable alternative is identified and consultations are complete. The move is expected to take at least 12 months. The Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) made their mark at the recent Australian Rover Challenge at 📍 Adelaide University, SA. 🤖 A triservice team of nine ADFA Trainee Officers and five civilian students from the University of New South Wales, Canberra, worked together as part of the Robotics and Autonomous Systems (RAS) team, improving on last year’s efforts to place fourth overall this year. The Australian Rover Challenge is an international semi-autonomous robotics competition, where teams design and build a rover under 60kg to be operated remotely in simulated lunar operations. Partnership in action 🇫🇯 🇦🇺 Deputy Commander of @RFMF_Defence, Commodore Humphrey Tawake, visited the Wide Bay Military Training Area in April. He observed the RFMF Company embedded within the @AustralianArmy's 7th Brigade. RFMF Force Sergeant Major, Warrant Officer Class One Joeli Rabuli, accompanied him during the visit. Ship ➡️ shore In 📍 northern Queensland, the @AustralianArmy's 10th Fires Brigade’s high mobility artillery rocket system (HIMARS) took to the beach with the help of HMAS Choules. Having earlier exceeded expectations by firing various missile types ahead of schedule, and at distances new to Army, attention has turned to the deployability of HIMARS on aircraft and ships to extend the ADF’s ability to defend Australia’s northern approaches. The platform has been certified to deploy on @AusAirForce C-130 and C-17 aircraft and on board the @Australian_Navy’s landing helicopter docks (LHDs).
