@micahgallen @NadineGogolla There is no direct neurotransmission circuit in this article; maybe need virus to trace to find if there is a direct neural circuit between this population of neurons and heart.

Really cool new paper from @NadineGogolla's lab showing that cardiac signals are transiently and precisely encoded in posterior insula neurons, with tuning strongest around systole and enhanced during emotional states. Beta-1 blockade disrupted this cardio-insular coupling and degraded emotion-state coding. Important implications for how bodily signals help shape emotion, interoceptive inference, and dynamic brain-heart coupling. biorxiv.org/content/10.648…

I started a company! Luminos. We made a complete neuro-electronic interface: stimulate and record from any set of neurons in any pattern of space and time, over a 6 mm field of view. Also useful for optical pooled screens and target discovery. luminosmicro.com

@Derek_Ran We used an ORCA Fusion CMOS camera. Many groups perform voltage imaging with two-photon microscopy, but photon yield is low yet and scanning at ~1 kHz is challenging. Sparse expression, structured illumination, and signal unmixing can help reduce background noise.

biorxiv.org/content/10.648… What is the computational role of dendritic excitations in vivo? We mapped voltage dynamics throughout the dendritic trees of CA1 pyramidal neurons in mice navigating in virtual reality.

Very excited to share my postdoc work "A song of ice (calcium) and fire (voltage) in neuronal dendrites", or if you prefer the formal title, "A dendrite-resolved, in vivo transfer function from spike patterns to dendritic Ca2+", biorxiv.org/content/10.648…

@MichaelLinLab Agree! Still, systems that as you mentioned (OptoVolt or SLAP2) are much more complex than standard 2P scopes, for optics, acquisition, and analysis; and 1P is just much simpler. I guess we will see a lot of voltage imaging studies in L1 interneurons in the near future ;-)

Read yet another review today that ascribes GECIs' larger SNR vs GEVIs to their being evolved earlier (suggesting the GECIs are better optimized). This assumption is understandable but incorrect. GEVIs' photonic response per molecule per AP have been as good as GECIs since ASAP3.

@JacquesCarolan I know that Michael Häusser purchased a Femtonics AOD system at the University of Hong Kong, and perhaps these can be implemented on that system.

SUPER excited that my first ever *real* neuroscience paper is published today in Nat Comms!🥳 We combined two-photon voltage imaging ⚡️and optogenetics 🔦to probe synaptic plasticity in the cerebellum of awake behaving animals. 🧵

🔬 3D volume scans are essential in neuroscience! While a single soma 🧠 might look crisp in a 2D plane, its dendrites are another story — branching out in every direction like neurons dancing under the microscope 🌐✨ (not the sun... unless your microscope is really bright). Capturing the full picture means thinking in volumes, not just slices. #Neuroscience #Microscopy #ImagingScience #BrainResearch #Neuroanatomy #Dendrites #3DImaging #VolumeScanning #Neurotech #LifeInTheLab
