@veenadubal Has anyone made the connection publicly that Walz was chosen weeks after he signed the butchered MN legislation?

And really given the completely unjustified airtime that Tony West was given at the DNC, we can assume this played a role. Shameless.

@ProfTWolf If I were a war criminal, I’d feel very optimistic these days.

Walz just said that Dick Cheney is an optimistic person. 🤯 I support Harris-Walz but c’mon

Can you imagine the General Counsel of Walmart or Chevron or Philip Morris saying with a straight face that he has a passion for justice???

Tony West at the DNC talking about his passion for justice! The hypocrisy is too much to handle! Is the justice he speaks of the dismantling of 100 years of labor protections in California? Does he really have no idea that he is the general counsel of Uber???

@DolberB That’s because we won those jackasses 5 years of funding, significant raises and reduction in healthcare costs as a result of our campaign. And we would’ve won. We had a vote that was impounded by the nlrb

@ProfTWolf Somehow I thought people telling me they didn’t need a union was a bad sign.

@kitty_kween_ @TrevorGriffey I don’t think @TrevorGriffey was putting workers in opposition to each other. Rather his point demonstrates the need for greater solidarity across ranks and for greater militancy by faculty. Also PhD funding does not pay living expenses but it does subsidize our time.

University of California TAs and graders currently earn more money per course than the lecturers who supervise them, and soon they'll earn more than 3x what 15,000 CSU PT lecturers get, and 5x what 30,000+ CA community college adjuncts get per course. Time for faculty #payequity

@TrevorGriffey Between this and the UAW contracts with the Big 3,CFA members would do better either getting a second PhD or working in an auto plant after completing the first one. #UAW

@ProfTWolf @GETUPgrads When I was applying to grad school I turned down an offer from Annenberg in part because the students I met said they didn’t need a union 😂 Glad Get Up 2.0 is happening!

From someone involved in GET-UP 1.0, it is so inspiring to see this new round of organizing and militancy under the guise of @GETUPgrads. 20 years ago the NLRB impounded our votes. This time we are gonna WIN!
GETUP-UAW Local 5124@GETUPgrads

Today, we rallied to celebrate signing over 2700 union authorization cards which demonstrate supermajority support for GET-UP, and announce our plan to file for a union election. Over 600 of us signed a letter asking Penn to remain neutral and respect our right to form a union…

@DrSepinwall @aktange @bltmacomb @carmendarlene @luytioco This is very confusing and seemingly contradictory language. Seems to waive rights around AI and then says consent is needed “notwithstanding the above.” However that is specific to “artificial intelligence models” which is perhaps narrower than other machine learning/ai uses

I was 27 when I entered grad school, fleeing 2001 recession/ decline of journalism -32 when financial crisis hit and TT faculty hiring was suspended for 3-5 years -36 when I completed award winning dissertation, after publishing a book and digital history project in grad school
Charles W McKinney, Jr.@CharlesWMcKinn2

I was 36 when I finished grad school. 37 when I got the job at Rhodes. 39 when I got on the tenure track. 43 when the book got published. 44 when I earned tenure. Just putting this out here for the young heads on this journey worried about trajectory.

I am so embarrassed on behalf of my fellow social scientists in the academy that not crossing a picket line en mass has somehow not become common moral sense. @UNITEHERE11

Um no thank you: “Mr. Trump predicted the demise of American auto manufacturing and the “slaughter” of 117,000 auto jobs. “I hope United Auto Workers is listening to this because I think you’d better endorse Trump,” he said.” nytimes.com/2023/07/20/us/…
