@maurice_1960 @doctor_oxford The case above is not placebo, it is informed consent and is based on pharmacological evidence (osmosis/Gate Theory) - as well as being ethically sound.

Had an obese lady co back pain. 10ml of nubain IV wouldn't touch it. She wanted lots more. Placebo effect of 10ml sterile water was amazing, virtually danced out because she got more than could legally be given. Getting something that you have been told you cannot have, is powerfully psych inducing for some

Mind-boggling advice from NICE - to use injections of sterile water for pain relief for labouring women. One of the studies cited seriously has sterile water as its active arm &, er, salty water as placebo😳 (ref below). *When* will my profession take women's pain seriously?
Catherine Roy@catherineroyuk

Shame on you @NICEComms. Agreeing that healthcare professionals can offer pseudoscientific pain relief to women in labour is nothing short of a scandal. Shame on you. New NICE intrapartum guidelines nice.org.uk/guidance/ng235 1/

@Ashleydalereed A ProfDoc would allow you to start with a review and that should help highlight key questions you can go on to research.

@Para_Practice Note: Anticoagulants prevent or reduce coagulation, eg Warfarin inhibits Vit K dependant factors and thus clotting (coagulation) is inhibited. Antiplatelets such as Clopidogrel inhibit platelet aggregation via inhibition of ADP binding to platelet receptor.

@Para_Practice The abstract incorrectly cites clopididogrel as an anticoagulant. Accuracy of technical details is key here; many paramedic students will be reading this article

@randomronil Mort is a great book. Doesn’t need any prior knowledge of Pratchett books.

I've never read a Terry Patchett book is there a best place to start? I've heard everyone rave about the Discworkd series should that be my jumping off point?
