Although this buyout offer is voluntary, there is growing concern that workforce reductions are imminent, which would detrimentally affect our local news coverage.

Members of the Press Democrat newsroom guild were given voluntary buyout offers today. This comes less than two weeks after SMI, (led by Darius Anderson), the owners of the Press Democrat, sold to MediaNews Group (led by the notorious hedge fund Alden Global Capital). 🧵

This morning, I saw the news that Mary Compton – a dedicated, extremely talented photographer for suburban news outlets – passed away late last week. I worked with her at 2 stops in my news career – at 22nd Century Media and then as publisher of Richard Free Press.

The two check-out lanes that are open wrap around the store, and it takes an hour-plus by the time you leave. The moral of the story? Be nice to cashiers. It's rough out there. Also, why do you need so many eggs?

There are no eggs, but some people's carts have three or more cartons of eggs. Do people really eat that many eggs when it snows? Or is this a hardcore baking spree. Either way, all you want is cranberry vodka, but that's gone too.

Picture it. Chicago, 2022. Everyone rushes to Jewel because it is going to snow before the holidays. And everyone forgets that this happens sometimes. As soon as you arrive, a woman is exasperated, shouting "there's no blue cheese..."
