Pleasure to visit @twinemployment in Leicester today for national #EmployabilityDay hearing about their work helping people with training and coaching to move into work. Getting more people into work is at the heart of our vision for spreading opportunity and economic growth.

@askryanair Ryanair had “technical faults”from Leeds to Alicante this morning, passengers still in the airport when we arrived for Dublin. We went through the gate but we weren’t able to fly. Alicante passengers suddenly had a plane! Now we have “technical issues”. Yes right!

@ersa_news @stephenctimms @DanRCorry @stephenctimms kicks us off by discussing the work issues which the pandemic has thrown up, particularly for those with disabilities and those out of work - argues we need more local level response to support people into work, potentially on an ICS level

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund was meant to play this role - Stephen has 'no idea' why the UKSPF will not offer support for the first two years

@DanRCorry agrees saying we have a very different labour market problem than we thought we would -one of participation. Many people are far from work, and one thing charities are very good at is engaging these people. They create trust to help those who aren't 'low hanging fruit'

Was good to talk to @cjayanetti for this piece on Restart. I agree with much of it. However - I don't share the pessimism on performance! I think the big issue is the risk of £2bn+ cuts to employment services at just the time we should be doing more. 🧵... theguardian.com/society/2022/j…

1/3 After an action packed time at @YF_Foundation I’m stepping away from grant making to return to delivery for children & young people. It’s been a privilege to lead YFF at such a critical time, when young people have been faced with so much uncertainty.
