Trail Closure in Effect 🚧 A section of the Father Junípero Serra Trail is currently closed during park hours due to pipeline construction. Crews will complete this work by the end of the day on Tuesday, May 19, and the trail will reopen on Wednesday, May 20.

There will be no pedestrian access past the closure point. Visitors can use the Visitor Center Loop Trail or Oak Grove Loop Trail to navigate around the area. Thank you for your patience while this important water project continues. #EastCountyAWP

HEADS UP: The far right lane on westbound Mission Gorge Road between State Route 125 and State Route 52 will be closed 24/7 starting Monday, May 18. This closure will remain in place for several months while crews build a structure for the East Mission Gorge Pump Station.

Early work is focused on the combined heat and power (CHP) area, where concrete pads are being prepared for two engines. #EastCountyAWP

This first-of-its-kind system in San Diego County will convert biogas from the three digesters (pictured) into heat and electricity to reduce energy use at the main project site and save money for the JPA and ratepayers.

💧Exciting news💧The final component of the East County AWP Program- the energy recovery system- is now moving into construction.

The project team is currently awaiting delivery and installation of the radio and switchgear panels, which will support system controls and operations. Completion is expected in fall 2026. #EastCountyAWP

This facility is where purified water from the AWP facility will have chlorine removed before it enters Lake Jennings, helping to protect and preserve fish and plant life in the water.

Construction on the dechlorination facility in #Lakeside is progressing, with all underground and mechanical work now complete.

During work hours, visitors will need to turn around at the closure point or use the Climbers Loop South Trailhead or Climbers Loop North Trailhead to get around the work zone. The trail will reopen after work hours and on weekends.

A section of the Father Junipero Serra Trail is temporarily closed Monday-Friday from 7 am to 4 pm while crews complete sliplining work in the area. Construction is expected to continue through June 2026.
