In today’s economy, I reaffirmed the true measure of education is not knowledge alone, but the ability to apply it to solve real-world challenges and create value. At the Nyakach Sub-County Career Fair, I joined young people, institutions and industry partners in advancing informed career choices, mentorship and skills development.
I emphasized the need for a balanced education ecosystem where universities and TVET institutions complement each other in building a competent and competitive workforce. I also reaffirmed Government’s commitment to CBET, dual training and stronger industry linkages to ensure training remains practical, relevant and outcome-driven.
I commend Hon. Aduma Owuor, the MP for Nyakach Constituency for this noble and impactful initiative. His leadership reflects a deep commitment to youth empowerment, education&training access and long-term transformation in the constituency and beyond.

I joined the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Hon. Julius MIGOS Ogamba, the Principal Secretary for Higher Education, Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, and Nelson Sifuna, who represented the Principal Secretary for Basic Education, in a consultative meeting chaired by Dennis Itumbi,Head of Creative Economy and Special Projects in the Executive Office of the President. The meeting focused on preparations for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations under the theme, “Education, Skills and the Future.”
With education at the centre of this year’s national celebrations, the TVET sector is firmly on the agenda. This is a timely opportunity to showcase the transformative role of technical, vocational education and training in equipping youth with industry-relevant and competency-based skills that drive innovation and employability. The State Department is committed to undertaking the assigned responsibilities for a successful event. @OleItumbi

It was a pleasure to be part of the 3rd Graduation Ceremony at Matili Technical Training Institute, alongside Hon. Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Interior and National Administration and Hon. Didmus Barasa, MP for Kimilili Constituency. The theme, “Today’s Graduands, Tomorrow’s Employers,” reflects the growing focus on preparing young people not only for employment, but also for enterprise, productivity and national development.
One of the key highlights of the day was opening of Phase I of the Electrical and Electronics Workshop, a major step in strengthening hands-on training. Equally impressive was the visit to the Mechanical Engineering Department, where the institution is collaborating with Superplast Ltd of Ruiru to produce moulds, a strong example of effective institution-industry partnership.
Appreciation goes to Hon. Murkomen for the Ministry’s support, especially through the National Government Administrative Officers in mobilizing youth into TVET for skills training and to Hon. Didmus Barasa for his continued support to the institution.
Congratulations to the graduands as they move forward to apply their skills with confidence, excellence, integrity and purpose.

Strong governance is the foundation of strong institutions and the future of TVET will depend on leadership that is clear, accountable and decisive.
This was my key message during the official opening ceremony of the Governance and Leadership Training Workshop for the Council of Kisumu National Polytechnic.
I underscored the need for Councils to take a leading role in advancing ongoing TVET reforms, particularly the implementation of Competency-Based Education and Training, so that institutions remain relevant and responsive to labour market demands. Equally important is the optimal utilization of government investment in modern training equipment, the strengthening of industry linkages to enhance employability and the fostering of a results-driven culture where performance and execution are continuously measured and improved.
I also highlighted the importance of resource mobilization for sustainability, the adoption of digital governance systems to enhance transparency and efficiency and the integration of green skills and environmentally sustainable practices into training. Further, I challenged the Council to ensure that resolutions and commitments do not remain on paper, but are translated into concrete action for improved institutional performance.
Moving forward, TVET institutions must remain inclusive, future-focused and firmly anchored in skills, competence and productivity because, ultimately, the success of any institution is defined by the clarity of its leadership and its ability to translate strategy into tangible outcomes.

Honored to engage the TVET fraternity and Public Service Commission during the entry meeting on the development of HR instruments for the TVET institutions.
The focus is a structured HR framework defining career entry, progression, specialization and leadership pathways across institutions.
The instruments will be standardized and responsive to institutional realities, strengthening governance and workforce planning. This is a strategic reform aimed at professionalizing the sector and improving delivery outcomes.
With clear deliverables and firm timelines, implementation discipline remains critical. The objective is a future-ready TVET system driven by competent personnel, strong institutions and measurable performance, positioning TVET as a central driver of skills and national transformation.

I had the honor of delivering the keynote address at the 7th Engineering Partnership (EPIC) Convention 2026 in Mombasa, held under the theme “Blueprint for Prosperity: Engineering a Sustainable Blue Economy.” The event was graced by the Chief Guest, Hon. David Chirchir, EGH, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Roads and Transport, who was represented by Eng. Joseph Mbugua, CBS, Principal Secretary, State Department for Roads.
I was also pleased to be joined by my fellow Principal Secretaries, Dr. Eng. Festus Ng’eno, State Department for Environment and Eng. Aden Abdi Millah, State Department for Shipping and Maritime Affairs, among other distinguished stakeholders from across the engineering ecosystem.
In my address, I challenged Kenya’s engineers to fully actualize their knowledge, skills and innovation to drive Kenya’s productivity. Kenya must build confidence in the local capacity. There is no reason to rely on external expertise for solutions that can be developed right here at home.
I emphasized the urgent need to shift from import dependency to local production. By manufacturing what we consume and positioning ourselves as exporters, we can strengthen Kenya’s economy, create jobs and secure a more sustainable and self-reliant future for our nation.
