We are the party of redemption, believing you deserve a second chance if you made a mistake as a young person or deserve to make a life if you came here undocumented but work hard and play by the rules. Yet, when it comes to political disagreements, we have taken a very different attitude. If someone held political viewpoints we disagree with or said sensational or hurtful things, we feel vindication and moral certitude in our condemnation. Perhaps, we could learn from the great philosopher Ted Lasso, "Be curious, not judgmental." I'd like my party to lead in redeeming America to live up to our promise.

Khanna: They’re saying this technology is going to be bigger than nuclear, bigger than electricity, bigger than aviation. Last I checked, we have an FAA for aviation, nuclear energy is regulated, and electricity is regulated.  So you’re telling me on one hand that this is going to be bigger, and then you’re saying you don’t want any regulation. I’ve read the San Francisco Chronicle’s reporting and I take it seriously. What is described is indefensible. Women who come forward with accounts like this deserve to be heard with respect, not questioned or dismissed. I regret having come to his defense on social media prior to knowing all the information. I am equally as shocked and upset about what has transpired. I am withdrawing my endorsement of Congressman Swalwell, effective immediately.

Wild statistic buried in here — a majority of Americans, across all ages and political affiliations, think AI will “do more harm than good” to their everyday lives. There’s only ONE group that thinks AI will make their lives better, not worse: those who make $200k/yr and up.

I do believe that a large collective of the smartest humans, aided by external tools, sits very close to the optimality bound -- i.e. humans should be able to solve any solvable problem (where the required information is available) if they pay enough attention to it

One of the biggest misconceptions people have about intelligence is seeing it as some kind of unbounded scalar stat, like height. "Future AI will have 10,000 IQ", that sort of thing. Intelligence is a conversion ratio, with an optimality bound. Increasing intelligence is not so much like "making the tower taller", it's more like "making the ball rounder". At some point it's already pretty damn spherical and any improvement is marginal. Now of course smart humans aren't quite at the optimal bound yet on an individual level, and machines will have many advantages besides intelligence -- mostly the removal of biological bottlenecks: greater processing speed, unlimited working memory, unlimited memory with perfect recall... but these are mostly things humans can also access through externalized cognitive tools.

Astonishingly I'm getting emails like this in response to my commentary on the ICE shooting & Renee Good: "my understanding is that she'd just dropped her kid off at school, and was trying to turn her vehicle around and exit the area after encountering the ICE agents accidentally. This explains why her vehicle was sideways—not because she was intentionally trying to disrupt them."
