Trooper Bob Curry – Special Air Service (22 SAS)
Bob Curry is a legendary British Special Forces veteran whose decisive actions under immense pressure defined the climax of the 1980 Iranian Embassy siege (Operation Nimrod).
Serving as a Trooper in B Squadron, 22 SAS, Curry was part of the rear assault team tasked with breaching the building from the back patio. When a primary explosive charge failed to detonate-threatening to stall the entire counter-terrorism operation and leave his comrades exposed on the balconies-Curry took immediate, bold action. Armed with a sledgehammer, he stepped forward to single-handedly smash through the fortified glass windows, creating the critical entry point that allowed the SAS assault teams to flood the building, eliminate the terrorists, and rescue the hostages.
His raw physical courage and quick tactical thinking during those high-stakes moments secured his permanent place in modern military history. 🫡🇬🇧
