@CyprusMFA hosted the Informal Meeting of the RELEX & RELEX Sanctions Working Parties, under the Cyprus’ Presidency of the Council of the European Union, bringing together around 70 participants from Member States, as well as EU Institutions and Services. Discussions focused on: 🔹 Sanctions implementation and enforcement, with valuable national perspectives from representatives of the National Sanctions Implementation Unit of the Ministry of Finance, the Deputy Ministry of Shipping, the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, the Cyprus Union of Shipowners and Safe Bulkers Management Ltd. 🔹 Upholding peace, territorial integrity and human rights in Ukraine, including the case of the forced deportation and indoctrination of Ukrainian children from occupied territories, with contribution, notably, from Mr Mykhailo Spasov, Deputy of the Ukrainian Commissioner for Human Rights for International Cooperation and European Integration. 🔹 An exchange with the Vice-President of the General Court of the European Union, Dr Savvas S. Papasavvas on the respect for fundamental rights in the context of restrictive measures. 🔹Operational Conclusions of the EU-UN Sanctions Seminar presented by the Presidency, highlighting the importance of continued EU-UN cooperation, as well as EU outreach efforts to maximise the effectiveness of restrictive measures. @CY2026EU

For so many months, I have proudly witnessed a team driven by purpose, with perseverance and a commitment to excellence. Proud of our #CY2026EU Presidency. 🧡💚 Working for an Autonomous Union, Open to the World. 🇨🇾🇪🇺 This vision guided the discussions of the historic first Informal Meeting of Heads of State or Government hosted by @PresidentCYP @Christodulides in Cyprus. At the EU’s last divided member state, still under occupation. 👉 Discussions focused on Europe’s response to a challenging geopolitical environment, the EU’s long-term budget, and ways to strengthen the Union’s competitiveness. Leaders also exchanged views with key regional partners on developments in the Middle East, shared challenges, and emerging opportunities for cooperation.

Η επίσκεψη του Προέδρου της Γαλλίας @EmmanuelMacron στην Κύπρο, επιβεβαιώνει, με τον πιο ουσιαστικό τρόπο, το βάθος και τη στρατηγική σημασία της σχέσης Κύπρου–Γαλλίας. EU Transport Ministers met today for an informal video conference, chaired by Minister @AlexisVafeades. They discussed the impact of the recent geopolitical developments in the Middle East on the EU’s transport system and sector.
