Feels. Last week I wanted to check an old hard drive before recycling, an external drive using a short-lived high-speed USB 3.0 Micro-B connector. I have labeled storage boxes with all my cables sorted and managed. Yet…no USB 3.0 Micro-B. I failed. Amazon same day did not.

That laptop is just stupid. You can buy laptops with a faster RTX 5090 GPU at $4000. That's what game devs do. I don't understand who buys that overpriced laptop. Regardless, M5 Max 40 core GPU now roughly matches RTX 5090 when both are running on battery, while offering 2x better battery life. Nvidia wins when 200W charger is connected, but it's very loud when doing that.

A $4,399 MacBook Pro with M5 Max chip just SMOKED an $11,238 Dell workstation laptop. It is so over.

@SebAaltonen @wccftech AMD road maps show RDNA 3.5 as iGPU until 2029, with the possibility of integrated RDNA 5 only on a Strix Halo successor.

Strix Halo is only slightly faster, but it's a much bigger chip: 66% more SIMD lanes and 66% bandwidth. The aging RDNA 3.5 architecture doesn't support FSR4 (or any other fp8 local AIs you might want to run if you buy a 128GB model). Hopefully AMD gets the Zen6 + RDNA5 chip out soon. AMD failed to capitalize the laptop market when they stuck for Vega iGPU for so long time in the past. Hopefully they are not making the same mistake.

@stevesi @IceSolst The wires haven’t changed since HDMI 1.4, it’s not like USB-C cables. The speed rating s fine, it’s similar to Ethernet cable categories or SCSI cables. It would be better if they did it years ago and created Premium18 and Ultra48 brands.

@stevesi @nikitonsky Windows 95 - 2000 era was peak icon design. Making icons overly detailed made them useless for me, because I couldn’t differentiate between them without focusing on them. Nowadays monochrome icons have the same problem, they’re just unhelpful.

@stevesi It was a comparator not an operator bug, and it looked like no one at MS was doing code reviews. It was a type of bug that is really easy to spot. It’s especially mind-boggling, that MS could be sure that there will be people checking if they are playing by the rules.

Also notable to see the oddly named Draft Night at $90. For as long time $90 was what you expected to pay for a booster box, but that changed with play boosters and price increases. This seems to perhaps be an attempt to fill the void of a $90 booster box style product.
