Senegal in 2026 reminds me of Kenya in 1966. In some ways, it’s like Compoure’s betrayal of Thomas Sankara in 1987. It was Jaramogi Oginga Odinga who campaigned for Jomo Kenyatta’s (Johnston Kamau’s) release from prison and convinced Kenyans to make Jomo prime minister and president before Jomo turned against Jaramogi, detained and destroyed him. Like the fallout between Sonko and Faye, the problems between Jaramogi and Jomo were over the role of the former colonial powers over the country’s resources, foreign affairs and destiny. It was over delivering real power (political and economic) to the people rather than serving the interests of the west. It was a fight for the soul and dignity of Africans versus that of the colonial leeches. And like Faye, Jomo chose the colonial leeches over his people and those who made him president. I just hope that @SonkoOfficiel, as the power behind PASTEF and with the benefit of historical hindsight, is smarter, more strategic and tactical than Jaramogi was. Unlike Jaramogi who hadn’t consolidated power and influence over KANU, Sonko has considerable influence over PASTEF. Sonko and the PASTEF movement will be okay if they learn from history.
