@davedemps13 It’s agreed upon by both teams and the referee before kick‑off . Substitutions occur only when play has stopped so no players jogging on or off during active play. The incoming player waits until the outgoing player has fully left the field, and enters at the halfway line.

@Georgecorrie84 The last few refs we’ve had haven’t allowed it mate. Stitches lads up good and proper. Never known it until this season.

@davedemps13 In preseason or friendly games at amateur or youth levels, it’s common and generally permitted to use unlimited roll‑on/roll‑off subs, often called “return” or “rolling subs.” You can substitute as often as you’d like, as long as:

@davedemps13 In preseason games, You can use as many substitutes as you want roll on roll off no problem as long as the substitutes are being made when play has stopped and not just walking on and off the field to play.
