April is Autism Acceptance Month, and I’m proud to stand with individuals with autism and their families here in Orange County and across California. Last year, I authored legislation that was signed into law to eliminate the unnecessary, annual re-diagnosis requirement imposed by insurance companies, removing a burdensome barrier and helping families access care without delays. This year, I’ve introduced AB 2233 to ensure insurance companies cannot arbitrarily limit treatment hours during an approved authorization period, protecting consistent and reliable access to care. I will continue working in Sacramento to support individuals with autism and developmental disabilities and to make sure their voices are heard.

Problem Solvers Caucus members, Asm. Heather Hadwick (@hhadwickAD1) and Asm. Patrick Ahrens (@AsmAhrens) received the Head Start Hero Award. @caheadstart presented this award in recognition of their leadership in the bipartisan effort to protect and preserve Head Start funding.

Good news for California’s forests🌲My bill, AB 442, passed unanimously out of committee today! Makes it easier to reduce wildfire fuel by letting forests be managed as one whole system instead of split by arbitrary lines.

We are heartbroken by the passing of Congressman Doug LaMalfa, a steadfast advocate for rural Northern California and a true champion for agriculture, forestry, water, and working families. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Jill, his family, his staff, and all those whose lives were touched by his service. Northern California has lost a dedicated champion, and he will be deeply missed.

📣 BREAKING: S.356 — Secure Rural Schools — PASSED Congress 395–4! Huge win for AD-1, where all 11 counties depend on SRS for schools, roads, fire, and law enforcement. I was honored to be invited to join State Superintendent Tony Thurmond at the informational hearing of the Statewide Literacy Task Force this week. It was a privilege to take part in the discussion and to share how these important topics uniquely affect our rural communities. The challenges and opportunities in small schools often look very different, and it is always so valuable to bring that perspective to the table. Superintendent Thurmond outlined his major educational proposals for the 2026 legislative and budget cycles, focusing on the future of community schools, literacy initiatives, kindergarten for all, and addressing achievement gaps for Black and Native American students. My focus remains on advocating for our rural communities and shaping education policies that support, strengthen, and sustain our small schools. Their challenges are distinct—and they deserve policies that reflect that. @SenSusanRubio @CADeptEd
