Kentucky is reportedly involved with St. John's transfer Joson Sanon. The 6'5" guard is a career 35% three-point shooter with two years of high-major experience. Definitely a talented player with some perimeter size that could fit in at the "3" spot.
Sam Kayser@KayserHoops

St. John’s transfer Joson Sanon has heard from the following programs since entering the transfer portal, source told @LeagueRDY: Alabama Auburn Kentucky North Carolina Kansas Oregon West Virginia Vanderbilt Cincinnati NC State Texas A&M UCLA Mississippi State Georgetown Texas Tech Texas The 6-foot-5 guard averaged 7.9PPG and 2.4RPG this season. Averaged 11.9PPG as a freshman in the Big 12.

@DrewByousBBN you’re a bafoon if you believe that these guys were signed to be big minute guys. every program needs some guys who are content without minutes and will go balls to wall in practice/walkthroughs to make sure the minute guys are prepared and ready to go.

Lets evaluate all of Mark Popes "whiffs" this offseason: Rob Wright III: Think you can consider it a whiff because they were in a good spot and he didn't even have a photoshoot on his visit because things went south. Coaches knew they had Zoom Diallo locked and they were reaching for the stars. Staff moved quickly and got him a couple of hours later. DeSean Goode: Prioritized Donnie Freeman and Sebastian Rancik over him, not really a whiff. Sebastian Rancik: This is a whiff - staff was overconfident in Freeman and missed on the better MPO player. Dink Pate: Didn't want to risk his college eligibility status in a make or break year, we're good. Chris Washington Jr: Was always going to Tennessee. Visit cancelled in January because of snow that lasted close to two weeks. Quinn Ellis: Kentucky didn't want to overpay for a guard that everyone in the market was going after. Koree Cotton: Wasn't pursued that hard, come on. Magoon Gwath: Has had healthy and physicality concerns the last two years. Not a whiff at all. Jason Rivera-Torres: Literally just reached out. Terrence Hill Jr: Kentucky found their PG1 before him and landed Alex Wilkins later that day. Weren't gonna over pay on him. Cruz Davis: Was a Texas Tech lock early, got a bag, and didn't want to come off the bench as a senior. Anthony Robinson: Had a zoom meeting with him. Bryce Linsday: Reached out. Kwame Evans Jr: Had a zoom early and then prioritized elsewhere. Devin Vanterpool: Coaching staff locked up better guards and moved off of him quickly. Acaden Lewis: Didn't even reach out. Miami was the favorite the second he entered the transfer portal. Corey Hadnot: We just contacted him, thats all. Neoklis Avdalas: Kentucky wouldn't overpay for someone who was inefficient in the ACC last year. Finley Bizjack: Reached out early, they didn't want to overpay for someone that wasn't super athletic and a small combo guard. Naithan George: Not a starting caliber point guard, and wasn't going to be a bench player as a senior. Dedan Thomas: Wasn't going to be the only primary ball handler. Especially with his foot injury from last year which made him sit out of many games. Undersized too. Brett Decker Jr: Staff moved away pretty quickly. Him and his family grew up Louisville fans. One of the worst defensive players statistically in College Basketball. Miles Byrd: Committed way too early in the process and Kentucky wasn't willing to overpay when they had many other options. Actual Whiffs: Rob Wright III (arguable) and Sebastian Rancik. Donnie Freeman was also a whiff, but that's self explanatory.

It sounds like Pope was asked to overpay for an injury prone 4 man Who's "camp" has already been labeled as "problematic" If we don't come up with a great replacement. I'll worry For now I'm chillin' #BBN

Jerone Morton led George Rogers Clark to the 2022 state title and a runner-up finish in 2023. Now, after three seasons of college, he's on Kentucky's radar, visiting on Friday, according to @TravisBranham_. on3.com/teams/kentucky…

I'm not sure what someone associated with Kentucky did to upset the national media, but it is clear at this point several talking heads have a grudge against the 'Cats going into 2026-2027. Acting like signing two of the best playmakers in the transfer portal is a NEGATIVE is just trying REALLY hard to be contrarian and get clicks. First off, quit trying to sound smart and talk about "they need the ball in their hands." News flash...every basketball player needs the ball in order to score...that is the way the game works. I'll take my chances with two elite ball handlers, passers, and playmakers. It is a COACHES job to make that work + both Zoom Diallo and Alex Wilkins are coming into this situation with their eyes wide open. Secondly, Diallo shot 37.5% on catch-and-shoot 3's. Wilkins shot 37.0% on catch-and-shoot 3's. Maybe one or both will actually BENEFIT from playing off of the ball a little more. I'm not proclaiming Kentucky to have the best backcourt in college basketball, but these are the two most talented guards that have been in Lexington since the Coach Pope era began. He, and the staff, will either figure out how to use them or they won't...but simply acting like it is unheard of to have two players who are elite playmakers playing side-by-side is foolish and shows your bias towards the 'Cats.
