I don't want to take anything from Bayern or PSG, they’re both incredible teams and seriously fun to watch but i really don’t think it’s a coincidence that the two best teams in Europe right now aren’t from the top 3 leagues in Europe. With how many games there are in a season now, and just how tight the schedule has become, it feels like in leagues where there isn’t any domestic fight, teams can rotate more freely, and not really get punished for it. And over time that just helps you stay physically fresh when it matters most. On the other hand, if you’re competing on all fronts in a really demanding league, plus Europe, plus cups… it’s just brutal now. Unless you have ridiculous squad depth, it’s almost impossible to seriously go deep in everything anymore.

If we look at our starting XI from last season: -Kounde has dropped off massively and looks nowhere near last season’s level -Iñigo left and we didn’t really bring a proper replacement (Although Martín has done well to be fair) -Balde has also underperformed massively, plus the injuries haven’t helped -Frenkie missed over two months, including a crucial part of the season -Pedri has also dealt with a lot of injuries that broke his consistency -Raphinha has probably missed more games than he’s started -Lewy is naturally declining with age, so he’s no where near last season’s level anymore and Ferran failed to take his role So that’s basically 7 out of 11 starters either left without proper replacement, or lost form entirely or suffered from significant injury problems. And then we wonder why the team looks worse
