i am still in shock but I have won a Philip Leverhulme Prize. starting in autumn 2026 for 3 years, i’ll be looking at linguistic justice in schools, particularly in how children and teachers engage in radical, grassroots activism for structural change. 🌸 leverhulme.ac.uk/news/2025PLP

@MichaelRosenYes What we really need is for universities and the government to properly address systemic racism in higher education. Phillipson’s initiative (and the discourse around it) does the opposite: it reinforces and reflects the systemic racism that already exists.

I look forward to being trained in antisemitism awareness at my university by a programme that hasn’t included Jewish members of staff. Interesting.

Greta Thunberg gives her first words after she was released from Israeli prison where she was beat and forced to kiss the Israeli flag. She says the story is not about them, the story is about Gaza.

While the Italian government abandoned the Gaza flotilla, the Italian working class has not. The strike has been called for this Friday, and it follows a similar 24-hour general strike on Sept. 22. The Genoa’s Dockworkers’ Union (CALP) vowed it would “block everything” if anything happened to the flotilla.

Sometimes solutions are easy @DrJoGrady & @ucu Let’s sit down and talk without conditions or threats that damage everyone. It’s time to resolve this dispute. Our statement, with support from the following branch committees:

Shocking that @ucu are threatening to dock pay just for home working in Unite UCU’s dispute. Our branch @ULivUCU2 is donating £150 + our Admin’s strike pay to their fund, with more to follow. We urge all UCU branches to donate asap to support our UCU staff strikers.

🚨 Third consecutive vote for industrial action 🚨 ✅ strike action: 76% ✅ action short of a strike (ASOS): 80% ✅ turnout: 77% ASOS begins today with @ucu threatening staff: "We'll deduct your wages." Double standards and vindictive attacks undermine us all. #ReclaimUCU

.@Davidlammy suspended trade talks with Israel due to “dark new phase in this conflict”. Suddenly concerned about displacement & starvation he condemned Israel minister Smotrich's “monstrous” call for “cleansing” Gaza But at same time the Gov had a v different take in court!🧵..

1,300 MAT CEOs, paid average salaries of around £150,000, totals £195 million annually. Before academies there were 153 LA Directors of Education; there still are. This guy's £500k isn't the real scandal, academisation has been - and is - a colossal drain on Education finances.

The Education Secretary is wrong about teaching "grit". 🧵 She's wrong in her perception that anxious children lack grit and she's wrong to think that those with mental health issues lack resilience. It's vital that we challenge this narrative. 1/

teaching young children who live in poverty to show ‘grit’ is a classic, individualistic victim-blaming narrative which deflects attention away from structural injustices and pins responsibility on the most marginalised members of our society to undo their own oppression.

'Life has its ups and downs and it's about how we properly equip them to navigate that world' Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson told #BBCBreakfast why children will be taught the value of 'grit' to tackle a growing mental health crisis in schools bbc.co.uk/news/education

@GJosephRoche Unfortunately monolingualism is the dominant ideology in the UK, and so many will agree with Starmer’s appeal to ‘common sense’.
