“It is an opportunity… to strengthen our social care system for the better of all of us. A new year calls for a new outlook on social care, so it is seen as the irreplaceable asset that we know it to be. And one that we are proud of.” learningdisabilitytoday.co.uk/news/governmen…

It's good to hear @wesstreeting pushed to talk about #socialcare but - while it's welcome - we really shouldn't need to wait 3 years for the commission's reform proposals #r4today x.com/blimeysimon/st…
Simon Bottery@blimeysimon

If you’re waking to news of the commission on #socialcare your first instinct may be to head back under the covers. What, another one? Really? But there are genuine reasons to support it, along with a some concerns, particularly on the timing. Shortish thread.

Yes ⁦@wesstreeting⁩ a political & public consensus are needed for social care settlement. It’s what international research shows us ⁦@NuffieldTrust⁩. But we have to move with the sense of urgency that the house is on fire. Because it is . theguardian.com/society/2025/j…

One in three disability charities may be forced to hand back contracts due to national insurance increases. We look to Thursday's #localgov settlement to provide the assurance and funding needed to protect essential care and support. @Cordisbright express.co.uk/news/uk/198873…

Sober analysis by ⁦⁦@VODGmembership⁩ on the likely impact on voluntary #socialcare orgs of Budget NIC increases. Most currently pay staff more than the minimum wage so are likely to freeze pay to make savings, as well as hand back contracts. vodg.org.uk/resource/vodg-…..

Not-for-profit providers like us will have no choice but to pass the full cost of the tax rise on to local authorities. Our work is statutory, meaning local authorities HAVE to provide it. Without additional funding from central government there is now a clear risk that more local authorities will fail. We've joined social care providers to write to the Chancellor.
