This is the problem (as I see it): markets, left to their own devices, become monopolistic and predatory AND the state, left to its own devices, becomes monopolistic and predatory. And no one has figured out how to transcend this madness.

Proposition: the explosion of private equity predation on everything is discrediting capitalism. The sheer power of this stuff is not organic to markets with sound money: it was supercharged by the 2008 financial rescue that made banks not banks, flooded markets with cheap credit, and detached earnings from productivity. PE was and is the solution for investors seeking return in that environment. Now they are gigantic and eating everything, screwing workers and consumers. Strange to say, they have distorted markets to operate less like Adam Smith described and more like Marx predicted.
