@moyix Don't forget to give es40 a try too! I've been fixing that up for about 3 years now. Before I unlocked NT working and started a whole craze, OpenVMS has been stellar on it github.com/gdwnldsKSC/es40

6a. The emulator for CSWB was much trickier than you would think. QEMU couldn't run it out of the box, so there was a long period of fixing bugs in QEMU's Alpha CPU emulation, es40 machine model, and ATI RV100 model just to be able to run the browser.

A WORLD FIRST!!! Windows NT 4.0 for DEC Alpha systems can now finally boot under the es40 emulator! This has been made possible by the efforts of gdwnldsKSC on GitHub, with additional testing by @virtuallyfun and I!

@sundhaug92 @spaztron64 Speeding up the emulator is a work in progress, but it's 3x faster than it was when i picked up the codebase. On OpenVMS I measure ~30 VUPS versus the 10-11 VUPS it was when I started. I have JIT branches in the wings, but not yeeeeet functional.

@JerpaDerpa @teo_tsirpanis @shanselman @mxursault Options for permanent - Test mode, GPO, bootloader options, etc. In an elevated command prompt: (secureboot must be off) bcdedit.exe /set nointegritychecks off or bcdedit.exe /set testsigning on (will install test signed drivers without warning, will install unsigned w/warning)

That's a development disablement workflow I showed, but the other methods can be made permanent. Windows allows it PERFECTLY FINE. macOS is *more* restrictive. (I'm a macOS fleet admin)

Hey I love dumping on my company as much as the next guy, because Microsoft does some dumb stuff, but sometimes it's just check emails and verify your accounts. Not every "WTF micro$oft" moment is a slam dunk. I've emailed VeraCrypt personally and we'll get him unblocked. I've already talked to Jason at WireGuard. Not everything is a conspiracy, sometimes it's literally paperwork.

Remember why macOS is doing away with KEXTs over time and Extensions require signing, too? To ensure its unmodified. My linux fleet requires signed kernel modules.... for security

@teo_tsirpanis @Hunterkll @shanselman @mxursault Open source solves that problem. And GitHub or the dev’s official website with valid SSL is not an “arbitrary source” macOS and Linux both allow this, windows is the only major os that doesn’t.

@JerpaDerpa @shanselman @mxursault You can load unsigned drivers all you want. learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-… - nothing is stopping you. You can also use test signing to sign locally as well so that you don't need disable signing enforcement (local to only that machine). Other official methods exist too.

@shanselman @mxursault This is a “hardware partner” program. These are software devs. Maybe just allow people to load unsigned drivers if they want to trust the source they got them from, since it’s their device and they paid for it and all? You’re just an authoritarian scumbag.
