Unfortunately, you have to be very careful of people that ruin your special days/moments. Insecure/manipulative/immature/jealous people tend to create drama/stress during your birthdays and important times like exams, interviews, awards, promotions etc Any win for you basically.

My ex-husband decided, after 10 years of marriage, to break up with me right after my PhD defense. Yes, right after we had dinner at my advisor’s place to celebrate. We got home and he dropped the bomb on me. I was completely shattered. I cried for 3 straight months, lost 22 pounds, and somehow managed to submit the final version of my dissertation and finally become a doctor, barely holding it together. Now, 9 months later, he wants to be friends.

The privately owned minibus (aka matatu/hiace/combi/taxi/trotro/danfo etc) as a means of transport across the African continent is an indicator of spatial apartheid.
They're not just a relic of colonialism, but a reminder that we live in (a) spatially unjust countries/continent.

To be able to firmly say, "I can provide for myself and I am surrounded by loving support" is very healing.
