To qualify for the ballot a candidate needs 500 in-district signatures. We submitted 964 today. Thank you to all the amazing volunteers who made this happen! This is the kind of grassroots campaign I hoped for: neighbors talking to neighbors. Thank you!

Great news! The FAA has approved use of an LAX property for “safe parking” for people living in their vehicles. I fought for years to get safe parking started in LA. This will be the 4th site on the Westside. Other sites are at the VA, at my West LA office, and in Westchester.

No one should live on our streets. Period. But laws like 41.18(d), which criminalize being unhoused, don’t lead to more people in housing. How do I know this? Because we’ve been enacting them for over 100 years in LA — and the situation has only gotten worse. (thread)

Let’s get something straight: LA has not defunded the LAPD. Not even close. Political candidates, the LAPPL, talk radio, and social media are all shouting about defunding and its consequences. But it’s a lie – a lie that is making us and our neighborhoods less safe. (thread)
