@mirgray So many people will be helped thanks to your work on Erin’s behalf. Thank you for ensuring that something positive comes from such a tragic series of events.

Thank you to all who helped this week. For those who couldn't help this week, there will be more to do in a while. More thoughts tomorrow after I rest. 5 #VLBFriend

Now @veganlovebunny's apartment is "packed". As I have family stuff tomorrow, the movers will come on later to move boxes to my house as the next step on their journey to new owners. #VLBFriend 1

@ask_aubry My then-60ish year old Mom had this happen often decades ago volunteering on her local suicide hotline. If men heard a new female voice, they would write off the sound as though they were crying, then abruptly hang up, leaving her scared for his life. So cruel.

@fasc1nate @JAWoltemade why is my brain writing a skit whereby residents who don't want to go gently somehow manage to rally leading to an epic chase scene. I can see my dad throwing something at the cat. I can imagine your mom accusing the cat of murder.

In 2005, a nursing home in the US got a six-month-old kitten named Oscar as a therapy cat. The staff soon noticed something unusual about him. Oscar often liked to be by himself, but sometimes he would go and lie next to one of the residents. Strangely, the resident he chose would often pass away within a few hours. At first, the workers didn't think it was important, but after it happened 20 times, they started to think Oscar knew when someone was going to die. So, they began to call the resident's family if they saw Oscar with them. Some people think Oscar could sense certain smells from dying cells, and that's why he went to comfort residents who were alone. There was even a time when the staff thought one resident was going to die, but Oscar stayed with a different, healthier-looking person, who then died first. Oscar lived until 2022 and was right about more than 100 deaths during his life.

If I found this in my fridge I would just leave. Head West until I hit the ocean, maybe go North and work the crab boats in Alaska, but never look back. Get a new name, start a new life, and in time, start a new family.

Can we talk about milk bags for a sec? My fam cuts the aperture THIS BIG, and won’t abide my quibbles about it. I think I have to start buying cartons. Please tell me I’m not the only small-aperture proponent!

You already know We Are the World but you may not know Canada rounded up their musical All-Stars and made a song for starving people too. It’s like an SCTV sketch, I can’t stop watching. The guy from Loverboy almost ends world hunger by himself. Enjoy.

Hotel staff: please stop announcing out loud the room number of the person checking in, especially single women, guests with kids, etc. Tell your coworkers to stop too. Write it on the key sleeve. Skip the fake anti-trafficking training and implement real safety measures.

There are venues who charge 20% without even providing someone to work the merch table. Artists not only rely on merch profit to help make up for the streaming fiasco, but they also pay for the merch's design, production, shipping, etc.
Dan Mangan@danmanganmusic

Many music fans don’t know that venues typically take a cut from artist’s merch sales, or why/how the predatory and inequitable practice has become so normalized.. so I broke it all down for @Talkhouse.. and offer a simple solution for the music industry. talkhouse.com/wtf-are-merch-…

I'm thinking of the MS St Louis today, when in June 1939, Canada denied entry to over 900 Jews and turned them back to Europe where over a quarter of them died in the Holocaust. It sickens me that they were denied entry while 2000 Ukrainian members of the SS faced no issue.

this cruelty only makes sense as a policy if you are assuming that 1) there are plentiful, effective treatment programs / resources in SF and 2) you think unhoused people just need to be forced into compliance and don’t have legitimate grievances (both are false)

I’m not quite sure how to explain what’s happened tonight, because it’s still happening - but here goes… At 4:40pm I jumped on a train from London to Edinburgh.. It was comfy, it was quiet In hindsight, too good to last…
