For over 70 years, adjusting your status to a Green Card from within the US has been the standard pathway to achieve permanent legal status.  Now Trump wants to change that solely to inflict damage on our immigrants and mixed families by forcing people to wait often years in their home country. This is a stupid as it is cruel. And it solely targets legal immigrants.  We won’t let this happen.
USCIS@USCIS

USCIS is applying long-standing law and prior court decisions to require certain aliens with temporary visas who decide they want to permanently reside in the U.S. to return to their home countries to apply for permanent visas through the @StateDept. We're returning to the original intent of the law to ensure aliens navigate our nation’s immigration system properly. Here’s what you should know: uscis.gov/newsroom/news-…

This is a body blow for people planning to settle in the US. Have been telling this for a long time, the US has decided it's not going to be the home for the best and the brightest. It's their country. That's their call. No point in pushing them. Only option is for us to make India the best and the brightest. Remove the US from your thoughts and start planning for India. This is the way.
Homeland Security@DHSgov

An alien who is in the U.S. temporarily and wants a Green Card must return to their home country to apply. This policy allows our immigration system to function as the law intended instead of incentivizing loopholes. The era of abusing our nation’s immigration system is over.

@bscholl It boils down to the fact that people are tired of multiculturalism. We as a country owe these nothing. If tanking the economy prevents the balkanization of America it’s a risk I’m willing to take.

I understand why we don’t want people to come to the US to be criminals, mooch on welfare, open learing centers and otherwise undermine the country. But I don’t understand why we make it harder for motivated, ambitious, hardworking people to come to the land of opportunity.

Trump not only put Colbert out of work. He put the crew, the band, the costume and makeup, the security, the writers, the accounting and hr staff, and the lives of everyone who depended on that income to feed their families out of work. Trump is a weak minded, petty, and feeble destroyer.

@AlabasterApu O1 immigrants are creating more jobs than they occupy. @grok how many unicorn companies were created by immigrants and how many jobs did they create that Americans now have? Also add Google, Nvidia, Tesla, SpaceX, since they were also founded by immigrants

The biggest bullshit move by DHS in its history. So everyone on a O1 or H1B visa would have to stop working legally in the US, go back to their country and wait for years of backlog? This includes top scientists in our universities, founders of billion dollar companies (at least 3 just in our portfolio would be affected by the way). And if we look at individual countries it becomes even more bs. Indians would have to wait decades. Russians don’t have anywhere to go (there is no US embassy in Russia, hello?). This is the worst imaginable way to disrupt important work for the country and pretend you’re fighting some loophole.

@ErinBanco Allowing Republicans to participate in politics is suicidal. Democracies do not have to tolerate their own destruction. Republican voters should be disenfranchised for at least 10 years, and Republican officials at all levels should be expelled and forever barred from office

@jameslmorton @DrewPavlou Mackenzie Scott isn’t the founder and executive chairman of the company. No one gives a shit what she does with her divorce settlement. Bezos unloading shares tanks investor confidence and the stock price follows.

@DrewPavlou This is an insane take if you believe in efficient market hypothesis. Of course he can liquidate his 10%. Not in a single day, but very easily over the course of a year. Mackenzie Scott has sold 42% of her holdings.

The dumbest thing about all this is that once you liquidate Bezos’s wealth (which mostly exists on paper as Amazon shares that he can’t sell without crashing the price), you still have not solved poverty. You would just fund like 2% of US pension spending for 12 months. The next year you have to make up the shortfall
Bernie Sanders@BernieSanders

Mr. Bezos: Let's have that debate. Under my 5% billionaires wealth tax, we'd: -Give $12K to a working family of 4 -Expand Medicare for dental, vision, hearing -Guarantee universal childcare -Raise starting teacher pay to $60K And you'd still be worth $269 billion after taxes.
