Pep Guardiola’s legacy? Look all around from park pitches to Wembley. So many teams and coaches have been influenced by Guardiola. More teams playing out from the back, full-backs inverting into midfield, inviting the press, passing through it, attacking the space. Teams evolving. City won the league in 2021 with false 9s. Then a real 9 arrived, Erling Haaland, as Guardiola tweaked and twisted again. Mixing it up, possession, possession, then going long to Haaland if needed. Mixing it up, possession in the centre, then releasing flying wingers Jeremy Doku and Antoine Semenyo. Guardiola’s legacy? Look at the coaches who learned from him. Enzo Maresca, his likely successor. And Mikel Arteta, Xabi Alonso, Vincent Kompany, Xavi and Luis Enrique. Look at his impact on England. Nico O’Reilly starts at left-back. Phil Foden developed early by Guardiola, not sent out on loan, embedded in the first team early. He improved John Stones, Rico Lewis and Kyle Walker (who is now retired from England). Guardiola gave James Trafford a run in the cups. He gave Cole Palmer a chance before he craved more starts and went to Chelsea. Others have also moved on after a spell under Guardiola’s enlightened tutelage: Morgan Rogers, Liam Delap, James McAtee, Taylor Harwood-Bellis. Guardiola has undeniably enjoyed huge resources to call upon during his decade at City. He was able to draft in Marc Guehi and Semenyo in January. The sport still awaits the verdict of the 115 charges of rule breaches, charges which City deny vigorously. But Guardiola's achievements deserve celebrating: 591 games, 416 wins, 20 trophies. And so to the future. If it is confirmed that Guardiola is leaving after Sunday’s final game of the season, at home to Aston Villa, he will be greatly missed. Maresca is his mooted successor. He knows the club, knows the way Guardiola worked, and can seek to continue that work. It’s a relatively young squad that Guardiola has built. It’s a continuity job. Surely, though, Kompany would have been the man they really wanted. Club legend. But currently embedded at Bayern Munich. Guardiola's legacy is encouraging innovation, total commitment, near obsession with his work and playing attacking football. This City side are entertainers, playing 4-2-4 at times in the FA Cup final on Saturday. Even if the league is beyond him, the title seized by a coach he helped develop, Guardiola leaves as a winner, with two more trophies this season - and countless memories. Good luck to Guardiola in whatever he does next. #MCFC

Arsenal have been the best team at getting results this season. Best at set pieces and best at defending. They are also the masters of appealing for EVERYTHING…throw ins, corners, free-kicks and opposition cards. Definitely not the best at entertaining. #afc #mufc #mcfc #lfc

@joethomlinson Nah. The best the PL has ever been was 08-10. Coincided with the Ronaldo years, Mourinho’s/Ancelotti’s Chelsea, Liverpool (Torres), Arsenal (Fabregas/RVP). The technical level of players has improved. The entertainment value has declined.

Chelsea will finish above us next years in my opinion. Not just because they have a better manager than us but the fact they’re only going to be playing once a week. With us playing UCl football I have a feeling it’s going to catch up to us as I have no confidence in the board bringing in the 6/7 players minimum we need.

2 weeks ago we made this Chelsea team look really good. Even forgetting the stats of the match that Chelsea dominated, we were camped in our own box most of the night. Nottingham Forest have taken a second string to the same stadium and they’re annihilating them.

@Altgthr For what it's worth I'd offer Chelsea close to the £30m they paid for Delap. I know he has had a rough season but I think you are getting a lot of potential at a really cheap price. We will need to get a bargain striker in this summer.

We made some really good summer signings, but one thing niggles me a little. We wanted Delap and then Gyokeres before we signed the best out of the three, Sesko.

@BigRedGaz We’ve been wide open in the last 5 matches. However, he’s got a veteran midfielder trying to cover a lot of ground. Casemiro makes up for that with his passing and abilities in both boxes. Carrick needs a qucier CB and a midfielder with legs. United can then push up the pitch.

Now the dust has settled a bit, as fun as yesterday was, the fact that we were wide open for 20/25 mins of the 2nd half is what makes me think we’re papering over the cracks with the Carrick appointment like we learnt nothing from the Ole appointment. Vibes will only take you so

@Malachians I think teams have worked out that when United make an attacking sub, it takes some time to adjust. They then take advantage by pushing forward. Casemiro’s legs go late on and in games. Again, another thing that teams take advantage of. Note how Carrick rarely risks Ugarte.

Utd have a huge amount of work to do this summer, they don’t control games and every time they look they’re making a progress, they relapse back to their old selves. It’s fast food football but wins are the only thing that matters right now.
